I'm sorry, but the runnings and people in charge of the MOD should be looked at in a public inquiry - it's obvious it isn't fit for purpose, and it's been even more obvious recently :x :x :x

The MOD work with what they have. That is, what the government approve for supply.

Yip, a government department and taxpayers money being used to fund it, that's why I'd like to see a public inquiry (and I appreciate that will cost public money ;) ) - I honestly believe it's the only thing that would be a catalyst for root and branch reform, the sort of thing that might prevent the nonsense of rubbish Chinook buying, unnecessary soldier deaths (for all kinds of reasons, inc. barracks deaths), often dangerous and unnesecarily expensive PFI schemes etc.

Things are contradicted in the MoD, you can't do some things because of the public money, but on the other hand, by keeping with what you have is costing more money...

That's how I'm looking at it too, otherwise it just goes on and on. There has been decades of idiocy and nonsense with just the hardware and ammo alone...

I'm still missing how the cut-and-shut helicopter caused the Land Rover to drive over a land mine... :?

+1

I read the article and came to the conclusion that they guy must be a [LIFTED] muppet to think the two were somehow connected.

Quote:
The information was disclosed in a letter to Mr Sadler in response to a direct question he asked the former defence secretary Des Brown during a meeting on 9 September last year.

"It was a soldier on rest and recuperation (R and R) from Afghanistan who came into my shop and passed on the information that a cut and shut helicopter was being used," Mr Sadler told BBC News.

"There've been lots of things that have come out since Jack was killed, but I couldn't believe this" Mr Sadler told BBC News.

The guy's basically been a thorn in the government's side since his son died, quite rightly in my view. The article probably could have explained it better though...

How come he was so crap when he was in the job? I suspect these former ministers step away from the job's bullsh1t and their own need for political survival then go, 'Actually, know what'd be a good idea?...' :(
