The MOD work with what they have. That is, what the government approve for supply.

Yip, a government department and taxpayers money being used to fund it, that's why I'd like to see a public inquiry (and I appreciate that will cost public money ) - I honestly believe it's the only thing that would be a catalyst for root and branch reform, the sort of thing that might prevent the nonsense of rubbish Chinook buying, unnecessary soldier deaths (for all kinds of reasons, inc. barracks deaths), often dangerous and unnesecarily expensive PFI schemes etc.

Things are contradicted in the MoD, you can't do some things because of the public money, but on the other hand, by keeping with what you have is costing more money...

That's how I'm looking at it too, otherwise it just goes on and on. There has been decades of idiocy and nonsense with just the hardware and ammo alone...

I'm still missing how the cut-and-shut helicopter caused the Land Rover to drive over a land mine...

+1 I read the article and came to the conclusion that they guy must be a [LIFTED] muppet to think the two were somehow connected.

The guy's basically been a thorn in the government's side since his son died, quite rightly in my view. The article probably could have explained it better though...

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/8157786.stmHow come he was so crap when he was in the job? I suspect these former ministers step away from the job's bullsh1t and their own need for political survival then go, 'Actually, know what'd be a good idea?...'
