Eden Lake - 6.5/10 - Usual predictable thriller, go to the woods to camp as a couple and getting hunted down by the bad guy; in this case a group of angry teens which is a nice change. Few intense scenes, much of what you'd expect, better than I expected and the half a point was for it being an English film. If these are your type of films then it's worth a watch.

Bastille Day - 6/10 As above, stereotypical action type film, reasonable acting, some storyline, felt it had been cut down a bit too much in places. Enjoyable enough to make us watch to the end.

Jungle Book - 7/10 I enjoyed it more than my partner who felt it was lacking something. I'll leave it up to you - you already know if you're going to watch it!

Bastille Day probably was cut down as it's release was continually delayed over the French attrocities.

Jungle Book I found lacking too - it was nowhere near as funny as it could have been. I mean Bill Murray and Chris Walken? Frankly if it hadn't been for Idris as Shere Khan I'd have walked out.

You're right about Bastille Day - would explain it's chopped up feel at points.

With the Jungle Book I almost felt there was moments they could've given the film something extra and chose not to, which really disappointed me - it's unlikely I'll watch it again.

Sausage Party.

So, if you like Seth Rogan films you'll like this.
Also, even though it's a cartoon I'm kind of amazed this was a 15. I'm wondering what you'd have to do to actually get an 18 certificate on an animated film these days.

Anywho, thoroughly enjoyed this although I'm not convinced it has much rewatch potential. And I can never describe the contents to my parents.

Overall 7/10.

From what my sister said, I figure some of the trailers are crap simply because they couldn't legally show anything in context lol.

I don't know what to make of this. Parts of it were LOL funny, but then it would feel like you'd gone too long without a laugh. It's really patchy, right down to the consistency of the swearing in some cases!

Parts of it were genius, others were just 'look we've got this actor, best give them something to say'. But yeah, clearly you can get away with a lot in animation!

Sausage Party
Meh. It was okay. Some funny moments. Lots of crude humour and swearing. Nowhere near the quality of say Team America. Used a lot of stereotypes for humour.
2/5.

The Girl On The Train

I actually ventured to the cinema last weekend for the second time this year!

Very good performance from Emily Blunt. Interesting story although my boyfriend sussed the 'twist' before it happened and looking at reviews it was the same for other people.

I haven't read the book so don't know how it compares. Wouldn't recommend people rush to the cinema to watch it but worth a look when it comes on Netflix / Prime / TV.

6/10

Finally caught up with Total Recall (2012 version). The most surprising thing about this movie was how good Colin Farrell was as an action hero. He's not an actor I like but he did a convincing job here and just managed to avoid being overwhelmed by the incredible amount of CGI. There are some nice nods to the original version but this one dispenses with all of the one-liner comedy. It also dispenses with going to Mars at all.

So…a visually impressive run-of-the-mill modern sci-fi action film.

6.5/10

Oh, and Kate Beckinsale looks good in it too.

Once I saw who the director was I knew I'd never watch it...

Arrival - Very good film but very much one you'd watch once. Don't read any reviews, it seems none of the [LIFTED] can help themselves with spoilers. There are very few action scenes in the film which is where the reviewers probably had to fill space... For the most part it's a very linear, thoughtful movie. You'd be hard pushed to sell it to someone without ruining it, but it's one to consider if you want something slightly different.

Jack Reacher - Never Go Back.
Generic action with fightin Tom Cruise. Nothing terrible but nothing wildly unexpected either. Plus, he's increasingly looking like he's too old for this [LIFTED].
3/6

In other news, Dr Strange today I think.

I've heard Tom was only signed for a couple of films. Hopefully Lee will see sense and get someone more appropriate cast for the next one.

Not one of the better books either.
