I don't see why that should necessarily have to follow. Obviously, we'd no longer be subject to the EU's freedom of movement regulations but that doesn't mean we'd decide to turf out every single EU citizen who already lived here. That doesn't follow logically at all. All the Irish, French, Germans, Dutch, Spanish? As well as the eastern Europeans? Why on earth would we want to do that? Much more likely we'd impose some sort of immigration regulations from then on i.e. anyone after that point would need a visa of some sort, but trying to impose some sort of mass deportation of anyone who wasn't a British national is ludicrously impractical. Ah, so the EU is about exploitative working conditions. It's just great isn't it! Jon

Thats is a part of globalisation, which has not been so good. It allows governments to export their unemployment or to avoid skills shortages.

There is nothing to stop us emply them if we are outside of the EU. the difference is that at the moment they have the right to work here. However if we were outside the EU we would be allowed to put quotas etc on the number who come over (before many of the eastern european states joined the EU lots of them came over for the picking season - the goverment had special visas / quotas for that)

So presumably you think that money generated in London should stay in London, rather than being distributed throughout the UK etc? Eastern Europe is poor, it's right that we help them out.

I'd rather we got a fair deal from Europe, rather that throwing money into the bottomless pit that is the EU. It should have stayed as a trade organization rather that trying to interfere in almost every aspect of life.
We have enough problems in the UK at the moment as it is.

I wouldn't mind throwing money in if it wasn't wasted left right and centre. CAP anyone?

It has been a gravy train for years. Plus there is no accountability to the UK government or our parties.

I was thinking more along the lines of party whips rather than anything else.

You mean the inability of British parties to control their MEPs? Is that really a failing of the European Union?

No. Though I am sure that they are not the only ones who voted for this increase. We simply do not have enough votes to influence the overall result.
