I take it I'm not the only one that photobucket isn't working for?

I'll need to wait until it wakes up to review the entries.

Shame I can't see robinartwork's one in there though. I really liked it.

Ditto. For me it was either that, or JV's original which isn't there either.

I've abstained, since I don't have a single preference amongst those listed.

It has to be steve74.

This is by far the best, encompassing all that is good about a design - simplicity, cleverness and relevance.

Any other would be a travesty. Actually, steve74, remove your other entry so this one can win please. :D

Oh, and if you drop the .co.uk it would be perfect.

I'm going to guess that my original wasn't included in case it was seen as taking the pi$$ out of the old place.

I think I'll have to abstain as well, unless one of them leaps out and screams for attention.

However it is also very Windows centric.

What do those three symbols even mean?

Aw Shucks! :(

As a veteran of countless speculative pitches I have long ceased to try and fathom selection criteria, and simply accept that nothing can be done after the final choice has been made...

That said, there are three golden criteria that should always be considered -

1 is it relevant to the intended audience?

2 does it work small?

3 does it work in greyscale?

In trying to make a decision, one must see the contenders alongside each other, so the following images have been reduced to similar heights for direct comparison, whereupon it may be seen that some work much better than others, and some are solely relevant to the PC audience rather than encompassing the Linux and Mac people (as I understood was the intention of this forum):

I haven't decided yet, but hope that the above images will help others in their deliberations...

Steve74 (2), looks very cool. It gets my vote.

Some great work from the other entrants though.

How so? You find them on Linux as well.

If you take your reasoning CC then steve74's 2nd entry shouldn't be considered because it's very x-case centric and I, for one, don't have an 'x' shaped case. ;)

And neither do I. Thus It work equally badly for both of us. ;)

If the Windows symbols win I could live with it but I would have hoped for something a little more catholic.

:)

p.s. In greyscale I like the magnifying glass one and the "ammo case" transfer (bottom right)

Mac centric version of the PC centric version:

Platform neutral version:

Do you see?

well, no-one does, whether it be laptop or desktop or sooperduper phonethingy, which is far more relevant than platform specific symbols as an integral part of the logo – someone somewhere has missed the point entirely methinks... (sigh)

You really just said that out loud didn't you....?

There really was no point I was making, not being serious you know mate.

Just to be a pick git though, there are x-shaped cases that some people do have, I just imagine not many people who use this site use them.

Scan have 11 of them, here's an example for you from Scan.co.uk:
