Never had an overlyoverlayeduntesselated cheese problem in Oz, and I don't recall ever having a subway in the UK.

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

They've just opened up in Bramsche, went once, won't be going back. They are like Starbucks, no taste, over priced and over here...
You can get better rolls from the local bakers, with fresh ingredients, for a fraction of the price...
Their service sucks as well.

It's a great product if it's prepared correctly. Unfortunately, most of their staff don't give a [LIFTED]. It's healthy (depending on choice), tasty and cheap. But a lot of chains are the same. Shame, coz the concept makes a lot of sense.

I used to work in the second Subway store to open in the UK back when I was in my first year of uni. There was nothing wrong with the ingredients we used then, and I'd be surprised if much has changed. What has changed though, and removed some of the skill of preparing the sandwich IMHO, is the method of slicing the bread. We had to do a U gouge - if you imagine slicing down into the bread, running the knife along to one end, carving round and back up the other side, then all the way round to finish. Imagine looking at the bread end on, you're left with a 'U' shape. None of this simple slicing that goes on nowadays. They're still my preferred fast food on the high street.

I would've been there around 1996. The manager of my branch (Ealing Broadway FWIW) allegedly invented it when he was training at the first branch to open in Uxminster.

strange that coz i know they've been making it for years down under :p i think it just appeared lol. And the only good thing about being subway staff. My perfect subway: Roast beef slices, microwaved bread grilled for very little time: assemble, add a tiny bit of mustard and some salad. voila!

The service here is poor, most of the ingredients are not that fresh, the cheese seems to be processed cr*p, not fresh "proper" cheese, they are also expensive, for what you get.
That seems to be the problem with a lot of the "American" fast food restaurants, they are too darned expensive. You can go to a pub or proper restaurant and get a proper meal for less than a "menu" at a fast food restaurant...

I think its expensive for what it is. I do like some of them though. Meatball is yummy and is Southwest turkey and bacon. I'm not sure about the 'healthy' credentials either once you pop on some sauce and look at the salt content. Then again I once read a Starbucks Frappucino (the frozen one - spelling?) had more calories than a Big Mac??!

I think they count on the fact that if you eat enough subways you get sick of the sauce and fatter breads. that's how you lose weight :p
