OK, eventually got playing as the Alien, the camera works quite well, but how the fudge do you get him to attach to surfaces quickly? :?

It seems like the PS3 demo has some matchmaking issues which they haven't patched yet. It's the same with the PC version although they've updated that.

As for the Alien, when you look at a surface and the reticule in the middle of the screen glows it means you attach to that surface if you jump.

Cheers, I'll give it a go again later, I was maybe getting frustrated at being killed by the Marines so bloody often. Though it was nearly a privilege being killed by a Predator

A new PS3 demo is out which fixes the matchmaking issues. Also lets you host a server and browse for other games.

clicky

Thanks for that, I'll probably download it tomorrow - haven't got trying the game again yet anyway

I think i've probably played the game a bit too much since i'm noticing "balancing" issues in the game... or at least things i don't think are quite right.

For example, the marine's melee doesn't seem to have any form of stun on it, whilst i understand that he's not supposed to be good in close combat, i would have thought that the melee would still interrupt a heavy attack (like it does with the other races).

Next up is the Predator's heavy attack... there seems to be too much stun on this attack, if the Predator gets a heavy attack in, they have enough time to get a second (and fatal) heavy attack in before you can recover. In my mind the CQC should be (and it's advertised as) essentially a game of rock paper scissors. Blocks > Light Attacks > Heavy Attacks which in turn defeat someone blocking. However with the Predator's heavy attack (and maybe even the Alien's - not sure since the Predator telegraphs his heavy attack rather obviously... i always get caught out by the Alien's tail stab heavy attack) you don't even have time to block, which i understand would ultimately be futile, but it should also mean you have enough time to throw out a light attack (which would interrupt the heavy attack). Essentially it resets the "round" of rock, paper, scissors so you have to guess whether your opponent will follow up the heavy attack with a light attack (so you should block) or with another heavy attack (so you should light attack).

Also with my preferred race as the Alien, i guess i'm rather biased when i dislike that the Alien gets knocked to the floor after a counter... don't get me wrong, i love doing it to other Aliens however in that situation i'm rather disappointed that after a counter it's essentially a confirmed kill. Not sure how they'd address that issue though so i'm not going to comment on it much.

General other issues are just lag i guess... it's not noticeable in terms of smoothness, but quite a few times i'll have seen a marine, ran round a corner, hear him shoot a split second later and then take damage (after i'm clearly around the corner)... it seems to be a lag compensation mechanism to keep the game running smoothly, but it's also damn annoying when you think you've escaped a fight only to die after you think it's over.

Another PC issue which many people have been complaining about (and it's why i've stopped playing for a while) is the forced Open Mic Lobby system... it's just annoying that i have to hear all the people in the lobby chatting away incessantly (especially when i'm on Skype trying to chat with a friend at the same time, and thus having my conversation broadcast as well). Also, some people really need to understand that their mics are shocking and they need to either turn down the sensitivity or turn down their own game volume. It also doesn't help when you hear someone go "Alright... i'm the Predator so i'll dominate" before swiftly taking them out in game and having them quit on you. TBH, all it would have taken would be the ability to turn off voice chat in the options menu, but i'm really finding it annoying enough to stop playing the demo since the amount of static noise from everybody else's mics is just annoying.

Downloaded a demo for my PS3. Can’t get it to work - every game I try to join is all of a sudden full (listing 4/8 players when I select it) or suddenly unavailable. :?

Did you try downloading it again as above? Worked for me :)

I don't think I'll bother with the online game much if I buy it - I do wanna try the 1-player first before purchasing...

I'd love to play some of those arcade games but it's too much hassle (and almost certainly illegal)

I downloaded the demo last night, and it couldn't find a game.

I had been playing MW2 before, and that could find games fine. I also played MW2 afterwards without issue, so it must be the game that's causing problems.

I doubt I'll be buying it, unless I can get on after work today and it's absolutely AMASING!!

Just do what an old house mate has done. Buy an arcade cabinet then buy the jammer boards. Totally legal and totally awesome :D
He has 3 cabinets now and around 30 boards.

I downloaded the newer version for the PS3 and haven't had that problem again (used to with the older one).

I'm rubbish at games online, but even I've been getting into the demo as the marine - what really makes it for me are the atmospheric sounds actually :D

That would be totally living the dream, but sadly that's all it's ever gonna be ;)
