I LOVE my iPhone. I have the 3G version and it changed my life considerably. I have the iPhone and iPod touch and can quite happily use both at same time. I'll have my music blasting on iPod and will be playing games on the iPhone. Never had problems synching pictures or anything. If I want to use it as a USB hard drive I have a little app called File Sharing which enables that facility. Interwebz access is excellent on wireless but can be slow on 3g but I guess they speeded it up a bit on latest model. It's not a problem for me. Can still tweet and bookface on it well enough and it works well enough to use the maps app as sat nav in the car and on foot. It's great there are so many apps and games. Most of them you can try for free then buy if you like them. All the information based apps I have such as Tube Delux of the Big Oven work really well and have been very useful. I would say GO FOR IT! P.S. Getting my boyfriend one for Xmas so I do put my money where my foot is or something lol

That's the biggest selling point of the iPhone I think. The HTC HD2 looks great as does the Sony Ericsson touch screen thingy or the Nokia or LG. But none of them have an AppStore anything like the iPhone AppStore.

Just what I needed to hear, thanks Carolyn I could sneakily setup itunes on here Sumsung N10 drop all her music into it and she'll also be able to instantly look at apps and features etc on Christmas day. I'm just hoping it wont be to bulk to strap on the arm when she goes out running (small price to buy though I think).

Don't worry about that. I've seen loads of people running with iPhones. You can also get running apps that track your GPS position and log it back to your PC and stuff with speed, steps, distance etc....

One of my incredibly geeky ex colleagues has a cycling app that monitors his miles and speed etc and posts it on bookface

One of the other apps that allows USB connectivity has released an update that removes that functionality at the request of Apple. Hopefully that won't apply to other apps that allow USB access http://www.digidna.net/support/fileapp/ ... #internal3 The app is called FileApp.

It's more a case that the API to do so is private, and therefore you're not supposed to use it. They've apparently just put in a system that automatically test apps for doing things like that and it's an approval fail if your app trips it. If any of the other similar apps have to do an update for any reason - like say a new version of the iPhone OS - they'll trip it too. So I think the days of that kind of app may well be numbered.
TBH the thing I really think they need to put in is the ability for 3rd party apps to sync via iTunes. The number of apps that are using jerry-rigged WebDAV/FTP/Bonjour solutions to do syncing between desktop apps and iphone apps just proves it's something that really should be there.

I've never thought of that as I've never used software that requires it but that would be a good idea.

Just wondered if the 3G-S was worth the extra £100?

Normally I'd say no, but if you need that extra 8gb, you need it.
