On Saturday, we went into London and picked up a tube map. It had no Thames marked, or zones either. My other half drew the Thames back in with a coloured pencil.

Anyway, the good news is that Boris has got all angry about it, and the Thames will be restored in the next revision.

Good old BoJo!

I can sort of understand why the river was left out, what with the amount of information crammed into the map these days, but you just have to have the river on the map.

You just do.

We were going to write to Boris - but he seems to have acted on his return from New York.

The river is a geographical landmark, and it does help you centre the map in your mind. The map really seems naked without it.

I was in London on Thursday but I didn't notice the Thames or the zones being missing from the Tube map (but I had printed the one out from the TFL website, funny, I would have thought that would have been the quickest and easiest one to change).

The bigger issue I think is the fact that they've removed the zones from the map. I can't help but wonder if this is really for 'clarity' or so they can shift the zone boundaries to generate more revenue, for example by making zones 1 and 2 smaller so you can go less distance for the same money.

Bugger Tube maps, Tube Deluxe on the iPhone/Touch is far more useful. ;)

Just looking now but Tube Deluxe does not show the fare zone boundaries. That would be useful to have in an update.

There are two maps at my station. The new "clean" one and the old one that show the DLR, South London Tram links, and mainline routes such as ThamesLink and possibly loads more (I can't remember).

The new clean one should have the lines, fare zones and the river and that's that. Like the one on TFL's website.

Missing the river out is a bit stupid as there are public transport links there too. The river IS part of London’s public transport network.

I can see his point. It's better for tourists like me if the river is there.

If you are a tourist, then you really only need this map:

Notice this whilst I was up there and thought it was odd. I've been enough to have a vague clue where it goes though, so didn't find it a problem and none of the maps on the walls of stations or in the rolling stock had changed.

I'm sure he's got better things to do, but he does seem to be very market aware and is conscious of which quick wins matter. That makes for a great politician by today's standards.
