I don't consider £45 being screwed, or even £30 if you're a UK student.

£45?! Where?? There was a week where you could pre-order it for £49.99, but home premium's RRP is £150 which seems like a lot for a service pack.

I pre-ordered the Home Premium with Currys for £44.99 and MS have just announced that students can pre-order it for £30. I agree, I wouldn't pay £150 not even if I had £8 billion spare. Then again, with everything, buy it at the right time and it's a bargain.

Funny how MS start to slate their own OS....mere weeks before they release a new one *sigh*.
The only people who had serious issues with Vista were those who insisted on carrying on using a 1987 dot matrix printer and expecting it to work on a 64 bit OS. I've had V64 for over a year and have had literally no problems with it at all. Having 4gb of RAM is a godsend, and every program I want to continue to use has still worked....without exception.
The only issues I had at all were an initial lack of 3rd party support, and that's down to the 3rd parties not the OS!

Actually, my LC-10 works fine with Vista. My hardware problems were the motherboard, webcam and scanner. However, that was a few years ago. The scanner has since been replaced, and I have a new PC. I'm sure Vista would be fine on my current setup, but it's a bit late to be buying it now! I've just realised I've never tried my Webcam under 7 - it's on the Media centre which I put back to XP. However, I've been very impressed with 7's driver support. It recognised a lot of quite old and obscure equipment.

6 Letters for students.... MSDNAA I believe it's at my uni now, going to look tomorrow when I get my Visual studio etc for my final year If you're not smart enough to look for a better deal (or lazy....or don't ask) you deserve to pay extra I got 1 Home Premium retail (as all the 'e' ones should be retail) for £46 from Comet which I plan to keep I'll just get the upgrade for my laptop through the manufacturer if I can't get MSDNAA as I may need a 3rd pc to install the student offer Win 7 on (or that one will get vista ultimate retail installed)

I loved Vista and miss it sorely.
Currently using windows 7 and kicking myself for getting the £49.99 offer.
Rest assured that as soon as I have secured my £30 student copy i'll cancel my current order.

Check your msdnaa first if your uni has one as it's on now apparently
