I think it was 2.n of SPB, just looked at 3 and it is vary different, but suffers the Android and Samsung Omnia problem of clutter. That is what I like about the TouchFlo and the iPhone interfaces, the information is ordered and uncluttered. The SPB shell looks cluttered, in comparison.

Does the contacts have the option of showing the names, instead of photos? I have photos for maybe 1% of my contacts... :?

The issue with clutter is very easily addressed, You hold down an icon then you go into edit mode and can remove anything you don't want from the today page, you can add in bits for notifications/shortcuts etc, you can also change the icon size and decide to show the text or not

the intitial page:

My home page consists of an analogue clock, weather and battery indicator, notification boxes for email/sms/calls and a button to quick lock the device, everything else is on the other 2 pages (there is a professional view like v2 but I find it cluttered)

For contacts on the list, if there isn't a picture it displays the name, you also have the choice to go to Facebook to get a picture if they are on your friends list

That is SPB Mobile shell v3.0, a skin for Windows mobile phones that goes over the normal today skin

It should run on your Omnia fine, and you can download a 15 day trial
http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/pocketp ... bileshell/

youtube vid of someone using it on the omnia
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vIVpRgKwWNs

pm me if you like it and I can point you in the direction of the cheapest place to get a fully licenced one :)

Don't go with htc then, the camera sucks compared to the 3GS one...

But they both suck ass next to whatever Sony, LG and Samsung are offering. If Apple made an iPhone that didn't require iTunes, was less proprietary and had a high megapixel camera with decent flash - I'd buy that. Presumably though, I'm unlikely to see it?

As for the Sony, I'm happy to wait for now. I pay £30 SIM only for 1200mins, 500txts, unlimited landline calls and 500mb of data. I can use it as a modem for my laptop at up to 3.6meg (about 1-2 in reality, but still reasonable), the camera rocks and the rest of the general phoneness is perfectly adequate. The browser isn't very practical, neither is the screen, but I don't run a business from it and Facebook works fine.

The only problem is the battery is getting a little long in the tooth, so at some point, I will have to swap. I'd rather buy something like the C905 and stick with a "non-smart" phone, but is seems everything is powered by Android, S60, or WinMo and has either full touch screen or something else that's liable to break at some point or just not provide the cleanest interface.

Maybe waiting is all I have, but I'm not very good at it ;)

In my experience, the high megapixel count of Cybershot phones has equated to quality far superior to most other phones. It's a bit like the car system of the 90s. The best options and spec were only available on models with bigger engines. It seems that for the the most part, phones with high counts such as the C905, Renoir, Pixon etc. take significantly better photos than lesser models.

It seems that taking photos is not something that "smart-phone" users are interested in, so as a feature, they're left to take a back seat

I have a Nokia with 3.2 Mpx camera the image quality is crap beyond belief.

My iPhone also has a 3.2 Mpx camera and it is a little beauty. (It could use a flash though)

CC

Edit

P.s

When was the last time you saw a 5 Mpx image? Not on your screen surely? Not on most prints either. :?

I use them in emails and on Facebook and some forums. Not to mention on my own desktop. I don't own a decent camera and there's actually less noise from the Sony than there is from my old 3.2mp Fuji. The iPhone camera has improved - granted. But it's still not a feature that they're bothered about and the lack of flash is appalling.

Looks like I'm gonna continue to wait....

Say again, do you have a desktop that can show 5 Mpx?

I have a 24" iMac and that is 1920-by-1200 resolution or 2.3 Mpx

When has it become the norm that a mobile is no good unless it has a 5 mega-pixel camera? I do have an iPhone, but that aside I'm fed up to the back teeth of people bashing any phone because of it's camera, it's a mobile. A camera should be an enhancement of a mobile, not a replacement for a point and shoot.
