The only thing that is worrying me are the reports on battery life! A friend of mine has installed about half a dozen for his company and all the users are reporting a battery life of less than 1 days, and if the talk for 30 minutes or so, they'll be lucky to get 3 hours out of the 'phone, before the have to hit the recharger!

I had the same problem after upgrading to 3.0.

The battery would last around 6 hours on standby and it would be hot all the time.

I fixed it by turning off the push settings. The battery now lasts 3 or 4 days on standby.

Battery life is a problem, the thing is that the device does so many things, and is being actively used for hours at a time. Also for some reason the low battery warning seems to kick in very early.

On your htc do you keep WiFi, 3G, Bluetooth, GPS and Push Email switched on all of the time?

I reckon I'm charging mine every other day or so. I do a lot of texting but less talking and I do have a few apps using the wifi/3g - for example I have the ecb app at the mo. Plus a have a few apps running push notifications (an IM client, Tioti TV and a football related app that's pretty dormant right now). Plus 'push' for email. I play the odd game but it's not what I do for hours at a time. I think I'm probably middling, battery wise. I reckon if you were browsing the web a lot or a heavy gamer, you'd find the iPhone's battery a bit weedy. The 3GS has significantly better battery life than my 3G though, I think?

Apparently it also runs extremely hot though. They had an example on the news where a girl's 3GS was literally glowing red (slightly). Something be faulty in that one, well hopefully anyway

My new 3g-s seems to have a shorter battery life than my old 3G. Although I do have wi-fi, bluetooth & push email on constantly.
Still needs a charge every night (it will last 2 days but I don't trust the battery meter)

I've no idea what you lot are doing with your iPhones but I'll get 4 days inbetween charges with mine.
I'm a very heavy texter, >500 per month, and I make calls using Skype, so Wi-Fi needs to be on for that. The <20% battery life warning comes on and I'll generally get a few hours usage after that.
If miPhone was on standby all the time I think I'd easily get longer than a week without needing to charge it.

Mine might last longer but I don't like it getting too low. (my 3G used to say 3/4 full after a day but would get a low battery after a few mins of use the following day)

My battery is better than quite a few people seem to say in this thread.

I have everything on. Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Push, full brightness on the screen, iPod is used normally for an hour at least usually more.

It gets a lot of use, and will still go two days. :?

I don't use BlueTooth much, a couple of times a week, so it is switched off most of the time. I don't use the wi-fi functionality much either, once every couple of weeks, so it is also switched off. It is a 3G 'phone, so it is switched on all the time, but I don't use any push services.

The same would go for the iPhone, I would be using it for its 'phone and PIM abilities, plus listening to podcasts on the move, not for web browsing. The web side of the 'phone really doesn't interest me that much, although I might do the odd bit of tweeting whilst out and about...

Edit: Thanks Mark, that sounds more reasonable. I only switch on the services I need, so I expect that the iPhone would easily last a couple of days.

Sorry, I did read your post as well, but Mark's use is more in line with how I tend to use mine.

I don't understand why people leave Wi-Fi and BT on all the time, if they aren't using the services... They waste battery and open up the 'phone to more angles of attack. I literally turn the services on when I need them, then switch them off again.

My, how things change.

What happened to the "My HTC pisses all over the iPhone, it's fantastic" line Dave? ;)

Version 3.0 of the software happened.

I always said the iPhone was good, the user interface is excellent, but it was missing some functionality which I needed. Version 3.0 brought the missing bits with it. I still like the Touch Pro, but I like the new 3GS with the 3.0 software better.

The iPhone is finally starting to mature and is bringing most of the functionality users expect from a mobilephone.

Up until the launch of the 3.0 software, I would have recommended a Windows Mobile 'phone over an iPhone for business use every time, but with the changes in 3.0 and the changes coming in Snow Leopard, the iPhone has put itself a nose ahead.

Unless you want to use Video calling in which case to mis-quote Nick, "My Omnia pisses all over the iPhone, it's fantastic" ;) :P

Why would you want to see someone's ear whilst talking to them?
