An interesting theory that the reason we're now getting so many remakes/reboots/fresh attempts of stuff even Hollywood didn't dare touch (Robocop, Ghostbusters, Predator etc) is that all those movies never made it to China originally. It's also apparently why the scripts are so awful - universal jokes and little dialogue are much easier to translate in a language short on colloquialism.

Hmm... I thought it was all about renewing trademarks.

I'm guessing it all works out nicely. Well, so long as you're a studio. Everybody else gets treated like an idiot.

Just thinking further though, many of the films from the late 80's and early 90's didn't get sequels for decades, so it wouldn't necessarily be about trademarks etc. Maybe, I dunno.

Been having problems for a few weeks now. The doctor gave me a cream and told me to try it for a couple of weeks. Not better...

Went back to the doctor's on Monday, he gave me a transfer to a specialist, got an appointment for yesterday. Went to the specialist, he looked at my problem, said it was acute and got me booked in to see a surgeon this morning. The surgeon agreed, acute, needs operating on, but he has long waiting list, so I would have to wait 2 weeks for an operation, which is too long, according to him.

He calls another hospital, gets me an appointment to see their surgeon straight away (as in, leave now, drive to hospital, do not pass go, do not collect 200 quid). Got to the hospital and had to wait about 5 minutes, before they called me up, then waiting until the surgeon came to see me. Took a quick look, that is acute, he says, I'll talk to the head of surgery... 10 minutes later, he came back in and said, that they can perform the operation straight away!

I wasn't ready for that, I was expecting a talk with the surgeon and an operation in a couple of days. We compromised, I'm booked in for an operation tomorrow morning!

Hope it goes well Dave!

That's speedy treatment.

Thanks.

I am glad they can fit me in so quick. Certainly a change to the UK system, where my mother had to wait nearly 3 years for a new hip...

Obviously you've not mentioned what your issue is (and it's your private business, absolutely) but if you were initially using a topical cream to treat it and they can book you in to operate on it the next day, it sounds like a significantly less complex procedure than a replacement hip op, which is an operation that takes several hours to complete and has significant post-op work to boot. Which it's very unlikely any hospital is going to be able to organise at a day's notice.

Not saying your mother was treated well (three years is patently far too long to wait for a new hip), just that you may be comparing apples and oranges. In any case, best of luck and a speedy recovery.

I'm guessing haemorrhoids. Probably wrong.

If the NHS was adequately funded, you'd get speedy treatment. At one point, patients were having new hips within three months of being seen by a specialist. That was under Labour. Under the Tories, the wait is getting to 18 months. In some specialties, it's a six month wait just to be seen by a specialist.

Right area, wrong diagnosis.

Over here, hip replacement is typically a month or so. I had luck in England, every time I needed an operation, I was privately insured, so they were all relatively quick.

TBH I am struggling with what could be managed topically that then requires surgery other than haemorrhoids and fissures, unless it's skin lesions.

Fissure is correct. I was operated on yesterday evening and I'm back home.

I assume if they released you back into the wild it all went as planned. Hope you have an event free recovery.
