Usually if the oil company think you messed up they'll NRB you (not required back, send somebody else next time), run you off (you're on the next chopper off the rig, get somebody else out here now) or maybe run your entire company off (get another company out to do the job).
I suspect the later would prompt your company to take action against you of some sort. I've never even been NRB'd as far as I know. Though that isn't too uncommon. Often is usually a personality clash that causes that one rather than [LIFTED] ups.

This video isn't from the rig I'm on. But pretty much exactly this happened here this morning. The derrick and drill floor are covered in oil based drilling fluid. It's a right mess.
Thankfully it was only a small pocket of gas pushing the drilling fluid out. They didn't see it come into the well as we were losing fluid down hole at the time.
