Bit of a shoddy article really - weird typos in places. Resurrection was a few centuries after Alien III, not decades. I never really liked Alien Resurrection. I felt that they finished with Alien III when they played the recording of Ripley’s Nosotromo distress call at the end.

Still:
Quote:
"Someone pointed that out to me, the similarity between Serenity and the Betty," Whedon said, when asked by In Focus's writer about the resemblance between Resurrection and his directorial debut. "And it just stopped me in my tracks. I was like, 'Yes, my pony did its trick again!' I really never thought of it until somebody pointed it out to me. But the irony goes further than I could have imagined because we shot it on the same stages at Fox where they shot Alien: Resurrection. In fact, Serenity was built over the pit that they dug for Alien: Resurrection for the underwater sequence."

Firefly!

Res had all the right elements to make a modern B-movie horror show - a freaky crew, mad Freud-vibe doctors, inventive use of the species and death scenes... the problem is it took all of these things and tried to play it straight. More tempo and they've had a hit. The swimming Alien has always stuck with me, for instance. The problem is, so has old 'Mommy!' boy... With what they had to work with, fun was actually the way to go.

It's gotten to the point where I'm much more curious about Alien 5 than Prometheus 2.

8-)

Sadly 'Apone' apparently won't grant likeness rights. Which sucks when you've got nearly everyone else of note.

Love that Albino Alien, the rodent-like pinkness might be a conceptual step too far, but it helps make for a truly horrifying image and figure. I imagine it would have stuck out like a sore thumb in the film though.

I'm not sure I wanna know any more about the creature unless it's as good as the host traits idea from 3.... 4 certainly fcuked up, and Prometheus was designed to mean anything and everything, pissing people off.

Iam really trying to think how they will sidestep/ignore Alien 3 and 4 - simply because as far as I can tell, the Alien universe does not have fun stuff like time travel and parallel universes which allow for lazy plot lines and more “pulp” like science fiction. Alien seems to work on the basis of “if you can touch it, it’s real”. So what plot device there is to make this work comfortably, I can’t quite imagine.

Aliens is 30 years old this week - or, rather, 30 years since it’s release. You know what I mean.

I saw it at the Odeon Leicester Square. The biggest screen I could get to back then. It still amazes me that what I saw was pretty much a massive puppet show, and there were only six alien props made (not counting the Queen Alien).

Having seen the various making of videos on the DVD and BluRay releases, it staggers me how Cameron’s thinking worked back then. He used all the old film making tricks to pull off effects that HAD to be practical because there was no other way to do it. I still prefer Alien - just because it’s a real slow burner of a film, but Aliens really was a good sequel.
