And there's the whole 'possessed Sigourney Weaver' thing in general. That was actually pretty risqué for what was ostensibly a family film.

The Nice Guys - A lot of things you see in the first half pay off in the second, but as a result the film almost feels like it should have ended in the middle. It also feels like there's an awful lot lying on the cutting room floor in places (things are just figured out too easily and so on). It's not a bad film, but the first half will leave many cold. A few more jokes there would have worked wonders.
All said, it pretty much redeemed itself for me by the end. Oh, nearly forgot, the plot's nonsense lol.

Thoroughly enjoyed The Nice Guys. Don't think too hard about the plot. Definitely worth a watch.

Spy - was OK. A couple of chuckles. Not worth the score of 7 on IMDB

The missus made me watch a few McCarthy movies, Spy being one of them. On the whole, the films are generally rubbish, poorly written and with an occasional joke that's actually funny. Spy is rubbish. I'd rather watch MoS.

I'm not sure about rather watching MoS but I have to agree that I really don't get why McCarthy is this major thing now. She seems pretty average to me.

Hollywood being as backward as it is, she's the 'chubby comedy girl' alongside Rebel Wilson. I mean FFS, Wilson still gets called 'Fat Amy' by people who can't be bothered to learn her name. This is the real reason people are pissed off about the Ghostbusters reboot, not frigging sexism. 'From the director of crap comedies for women and starring his chief cohort Melissa McCarthy...'

Independence Day 2: Day Harder
More or less a do-over of the first. The good bits are call backs to the original, and there's some very cheesy lines thrown in for good measure. Also you can see how the Chinese cut will be different. All in all good fun, I suppose, but leave the disbelief at the door. Some plot holes you could fly a planet harvester through.
Just fire up the original and enjoy Goldblum and Smith in one of their best films instead. Is it pointless? Perhaps. The studio's definitely keeping the door open for a 3rd too. Meh. 5/10.

It seems to be Marmite going by the paid reviews.
I thought the original was alright at best so I really don't care.

I slept through to films at the cinema. The original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie, and Independence Day. And I mean sleeping - as in I missed a good hour of each.

Don't go to the cinema when you're tired? Watched The Hateful Eight, a few days ago. It was a bit meh. It felt like QT had run out of ideas and tried to re-do Reservoir Dogs as a western. Only not as good.

In fairness, the Hateful 8 is a bit of slog just due to its length even if you are wide awake. I quite liked it although I do concede it was rather slow to get started.

Batman Vs Superman: Ultimate Edition - If this is the version that's supposed to make sense... sweet Jesus. Michael Bay probably could have done a better job than this.
Superman waits around for people to attack him when he's not capitulating to threats, except when they need to move the story forward. Which is really most of the movie.
They really needed to have a Batman movie first because he spends most of this film giving you snippets of his character that are totally out of context even within a three hour movie. Oh, and there's trippy sequences that are apparently about nothing other than setting up Justice League. These happen and are then totally ignored, and if you aren't a serious comic book geek they make even less sense.
Lex Luthor... I'm not even sure they told you what business he was in much less why he's such a penis or hates Superman. His plan makes no sense even if you ignore this film's gaping plot holes.
I found the action scenes bland. It's got that annoying colour filter applied to it all. The script is fcuking terrible. The side characters belong in totally different movies and are generally arseholes whose motivations change every act.
They seem to have pulled every comic panel that Snyder liked without realising that's not how anyone in their right mind makes a film.

Steady on!! Except Sin City where they pretty much copied the comic exactly. I still haven't seen Batman Vs Superman.
