Water has started going down, my parents did not flood but a lot of the neighbours lost everything in their basements.
Stupid undersized bridge

horrendous situation, made worse by the fact that it takes for ever to properly dry out.

Clearly not as important as other posts recently, but:

How much mobile data my phone has been using recently. It]s the second time this year I have gone over my allowance, and I’m getting O2 telling me that I’ll be charged per day - they want £1 for something like 40MB of data.

Looking at phone stats, it looks like FaceBook is consuming the most data - so I switched off mobile data for the time being. My phone has been silent - no notifications from any app, and my Watch now won’t show stuff like weather. Siri doesn’t work on it either. I had no idea that so much on an iPhone was tied to cellular data, even when it’s connected to my WiFi network.

I’ll probably want to change my plan, but I was expecting all data to route through WiFi when connected.

This is a phone thing. I regularly do the same and have done since my first iPhone (the 3GS). Turn on data and turn off wifi or vice-versa. Having them both on I find depletes battery life quicker and it sometimes connects to 3G if the wifi signal isn't that great (iphone 6s).

I am currently sitting on 2 huge secrets, one of which comes to fruition on the 4th June, but the other one has to wait an extra 2 weeks!!

I want to tell everyone I ever met about it, but I daren't and I have to keep reminding myself that I can't tell anyone because I am the absolute *worst* at keeping a secret.

Secret Number 1 is out :D I surprised the Mister with a holiday for his birthday. His birthday was last Saturday, he opened his presents at 11am, we left for the airport at 3pm. I put Euros, passports, airport car-parking, car hire, boarding passes and tickets to the Alhambra into numbered envelopes so he gradually put it together as he opened things. He loved it and we've just got back from a brilliant week away.

Mr Nick Miners, he also totally loved the photo which he opened first, he hasn't picked where he wants it yet, but I'll send you a picture when he does 8-)

That whoever decided to close the [LiFTED] Mancunian Way on a [LIFTED] Monday & Tuesday instead of a Saturday and Sunday needs to be [LIFTED] lynched.

No. This is the final stage of the repair of the sinkhole, which apparently has cost something like £6m. At least if the sinkhole had reappeared it would be kind of random. This time somebody actually had a choice and said 'I know, we'll do it Monday and Tuesday, that will be fine, that will cause the least possible disruption to the people of Manchester'.

They had last Saturday and Sunday when there were no major events in the city - no festivals, no concerts, no cricket, no football, nothing - yet they decided to do it in the week instead. Probably just to avoid paying two days overtime. [LIFTED].

Ah. No accounting for council road department planning I guess.

I'll be visiting some friends in Manchester at the start of July. Met JV last time. Would be good to put another face to a name/avatar. PM me if interested.

My wife is currently venting on FaceBook Messenger. Her head teacher has dumped a large task on her to be done by tomorrow. Basically, they have a whole tone of subjects that they have to gather info on because most of the teaching staff is now off on maternity leave. Subjects that are not core subjects are incomplete or missing, and there’s an Ofsted looming. The head and deputy have had a major panic about this. So that‘s a big job to be done AS WELL as teaching, report writing and all the other stuff that needs doing this half term. I’ve told her to contact her union. I’ve not been keen on this head. She’s one of those cuddly mumsy type people, and you get the feeling that things are bouncing along OK, but staff meetings seem to be where panics are projected. Until now, they have been containable. This one may not be.

The previous head, for all his faults and aggressive management style, would never have let it get this bad. He at least planned ahead.

So, I expect that they’ll be tacking the word “Academy” onto the school’s name soon.
