Hear it's going to be cold and snowy in London on Sunday. Good excuse to stay warm and cozy tucked up indoors then.

Pensions. Ah the joys of a defined contribution pension.
Mine seems to have been sitting around the same approximate value for ages despite monthly payments in. This to me does not does not bode well although anything generally in the stock markets seems to b taking a hammering for various reasons at the moment. The question is should I stick with the funds I've got or redo it :?

Bah, at this rate I suspect the retirement age will be 80 or something by the time I get there or I'll cark it before being able to draw the pittance of a pension I'm likely to end up with.

I have a really good pension through work but I'll be getting income in other ways. I'm looking at my pension as a savings account.

My step sister is 60 and has about 3 pensions. She recently told me that she added up the income she would get and it comes to about £3k a year. She'll be getting income from other sources too lol.

I've got another 30 odd years before I hit my current retirement age (assuming they don't keep revising it upwards) so it's not all doom and gloom.
Probably just as well I started a pension when I was in my early twenties.

Given that my mum spent the weekend in hospital because of a minor procedure she had the previous Monday. She's OK, and the work done was part of an annual checkup that she's had for 15 years. Lemmy, Ed Stewart, David Bowie, all around my parents' age.

This. Again.

Both my parents died at 75 within a couple of years of each other. One from cancer and the other from smoking related illness.

We're all going to be very lucky if we get to 80 unless a major scientific breakthrough happens before we get there.

You just never know - all my grandparents were at various stages of theoretical fitness and wellbeing, with my granddad being the last to go aged 95 with cancer. None of it is black and white I guess.

1. Got my first ever own annual mortgage statement last night. Can't believe over half the payments were towards interest. But I know if we make overpayments, it'll pay off more capital more quickly.
2. Dining table - paid off the balance and just waiting delivery. Should have arrived last week really but delivery company can't deliver until later in the month. We're looking the last weekend of Jan now.
3. Blood iPhone 6S. No one told me it keeps your deleted photos in its own "recycle bin". Much to my horror when missus found some naughty pics that I'd been whatsapped from mates (of girls off the net) that I thought I'd deleted.

It's standard maths really. The faster you reduce the capital involved the lower your interest payments become more quickly and thus the more of the capital each individual payment pays off etc. Virtuous circle.
