Somebody really needs to ask the pope what he thinks of Fury.

Cash in your ‘glass cheques’: the end of the Irn Bru buy-back scheme is nigh | Life and style | The Guardian
http://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle ... me-is-nigh

I wonder what made it uneconomical after all these decades - why now?

The Barr factory is near my parents house and the end of the recycling scheme was covered in the local paper.
There are a number of factors. First, the cleaning equipment in the factory is rather old and bring it up to date would be a major investment. Also, at the Guardian pice says, most councils do kerb side recycling now so there has been a big drop off in the number of bottles being returned to Barr so the investment in new kit just isn't worth it. I also haven't seen bru in glass bottles for some time, it's usually plastic.

Over here there is glass recycling everywhere, but you always take water, beer and soft drink bottles (plastic and glass) back to the store. The PET ones are crushed in the machine in the store, the glass and reusable (thick) plastic bottles are sorted and sent back to the relevant drinks company for cleaning and refilling.

You pay an extra 25c per bottle when you buy drinks, this is refunded when you bring the bottles back. Jams, bottle vegetables, pickles etc. and wine and spirits are not recycled, they land straight in the glass containers which are all over the place.

It was a pain at first, lugging everything back to the store, but you are driving to the store anyway, so packing the car full of used bottles to replace them with full bottles isn't that inconvenient, once you are used to it.

Ordinarily, if I search for an item on Amazon, i'll at some point get a reminder email. I dont mind but i've been searching for presents for the missus and I need to make sure I dont get those specific ones.

How can I do this or do I have to block all emails?

You can go in and delete things from your Amazon search history. That might prevent the e-mails but I'm not sure.
