Anyone who thinks they're jabbing me full of anything can FRO. I'm asthmatic, but I've never had a flu vaccine and I'm not starting now. I don't trust anyone to give me the right information about it, let alone the right vaccine.
Yeah, I'm "at risk", but I'm young, fit and otherwise healthy. I'll take my chances thanks. Probably, they'll be a lot of people telling me to have it, but whatever.

As it turns out, according to a Prof. of Microbiology I heard on the radio this morning, some of the people who are generally in the 'vulnerable' category for influenza vaccination are in fact not so for this particular strain. Apparently a previous H1N1 strain did the rounds in the 50's and early 60's and anyone who caught that one has some level of immunity to this one - although not complete immunity since the virus strain has obviously mutated somewhat since then. The 'vulnerable' in this case is those who haven't been exposed to the strain before i.e. generally the under 40's. The mortality rate for this strain so far is no worse than the mortality rate for normal 'seasonal' influenza. Apparently so far the mortality rate is something like 0.5% (1 in 200 for the mathematically challenged). Which, over the population of the UK, is still a hell of a lot of people . Jon

+1. Also being asthmatic, I'll be in the queue for the jab.

As a health worker, I don't think that I'll have a choice and as my chances of coming into contact with swine flu are greater than many, it wouldn't make sense to go without.

^^^ditto.
I come into contact with many unwell people and catching swine flu is an occupation hazard. There was that GP who died and had caught swine flu. He was appparently healthy too.
My own paranoia comes out to play and maybe I'll be one of those who doesn't get vaccinated in the hope that herd immunity will protect me.

I don't know...I strangely enjoy being jabbed with needles, so maybe...
Would vaccinating everyone not potentially lead to a stronger virus?

I can't wait to get swine flu! Will give my immune system a chance to see what it's up against.

Everybody knows you're not a real man 'til you've woken up with Ebola. And the virus isn't to be laughed at either

I have asthma, and having gone through "normal" flu in 2008 which put me in bed for over a week, I'm not taking the chance.
