I agree on reboots, but it depends on where you left the originals and what type of films they were to start with. Nobody has any real problems with them remaking Highlander after what they did to the original run, but Back To The Future? The Goonies? Big Trouble? Pretty much lightning in a bottle with a minimal chance of not [LIFTED] on the originals. There are so many factors in play just within genres alone, much less the average contemporary script. See Shane Black asking why you'd ever reboot Predator when the history was worth keeping.

Fury Road never fell under those problems because George Miller has basically made the same film four times now, just with more money each time.

We (me and SWMBO) went and saw that - we enjoyed it - a good "Date" movie

The Wolf Man (2010)

A remake of the 1941 Lon Chaney vehicle, this sticks reasonably close to the original in terms of story - at least for the first half - and is nicely directed and photographed. The werewolf itself benefits greatly from being prosthetic makeup on an actor rather than CGI (apart from some of the transformation sequences) and I since learned the FX work was done by Rick Baker who did the same for American Werewolf In London which explains some of the similarities. I can see why the film didn't do particularly well at the box office, though. It is not in the least jokey and has nothing in common with the likes of Underworld or even Dog Soldiers. It is in fact quite grim and full of foreboding and features some gruesome werewolf attacks. Also I think Benicio del Toro is miscast as the hero, he looks too weird right from the beginning and his accent makes it hard to hear what's going on sometimes.

Predators - Watched this again the other night, it's not bad at all when you consider it was made for a pittance. Only little snippets of dialogue feel a bit weird in places (equally some are brilliant), but it's a solid film and contains some brilliant additions to the canon. Doesn't overstay it's welcome, works equally well as both horror and action. Great cast too.

Sicario

Talks about the rights & wrongs of cyclical violence in the context of the war on drugs. Bloody amazing. Tension is higher than a wartime submarine movie & the performances are amazing all road. Great performances & no clear good or bad.

It's really worth watching.

One bloke in work was quite pleased with Spectre, another was utterly bored by it. Both commented on a frankly ridiculous scene with the PPK lol.

It was a scene on a boat IIRC, don't wanna say too much as I don't wanna spoil it. But these things have more resonance over here cos our cops used to carry 'em etc.

Alien Vs. Predator - Watched this again. This film gets absolutely slaughtered, but there's not much wrong with it at all. The worst thing you could legitimately say is the Preds all look like linebackers for some reason, but they're still effective. Some of the fight scenes are shot in dumb-ass close up, but everybody is still inexplicably doing that today. The fast movement of the aliens is great considering how lethargic they are in some scenes from the films.

The small details are brilliant, like Pred tech and the setting. There's nothing wrong with the script, the film zips along, and the vast majority of the CGI still stands up today. Which is a minor miracle.

Don't know if it's a bad transfer or whatever, but the Blu Ray is pretty grainy even on the Fox logo

I always thought that the movie got harshly treated too. Of course it's not as effective as Alien, Aliens or Predator, but I liked it more than Alien3 and 4 and Predator 2.

The Man From UNCLE.

I loved the trailer. Very stylish. The film follows this and is also stylish. But the plot is weak. The "twists" don't come as a shock. I'd give it 3/5.

BTW Cavill would make an excellent 007.
