Urban might have been such a good Dredd that the lack of a budget meant he came across as a bit dull (through no fault of his own). He needs more interaction with the scumbags at the very least.
Wait, what?!?
Karl Urban was excellent as DREDD!

That's what I'm saying, note perfect, but that's a bit useless when he spends most of the film talking to Anderson. He wasn't really the star of his own film. I get why he needs someone to talk to for all sorts of reasons, but more of the interaction needed to be with the baddies IMO.

Nobody cares about Aloha, but the rest should have been brilliant story-wise (and without Sandler, of course).

Off the top of my head, I can't name a particularly bad sci-fi film that has starred Tom Cruise.
I've said it before and I'll likely say it again, Tom Cruise gives good sci-fi.
Granted, nothing spectacularly meaningful or deep, but they are all pretty solid films.

Personally I'd be seeing if the ASA could do anything about that, but yeah, shaming them is definitely the way to go in the meantime.

Of the recent ones, Oblivion I found staggeringly boring, War of the Worlds wasn't much better, Edge of Tomorrow was OK but just felt like a mishmash of other films and videogames to me... Minority Report I'd actually need to watch again cos I don't think I saw it in one sitting and it was years ago.

Tbh too many of his films just feel like there's little spark to them somehow.

I'll agree with War of the Worlds.
That's right up there with Tim Burton's Planet of the Apes for my most disliked sci-fi remake, but I could happily sit through any of the others you mentioned.

I'd have to agree with Mark on this, Cruise does fairly decent sci-fi - I liked Oblivion and I thought Edge of Tomorrow was a breath of fresh air. I didn't mind War of the Worlds.

Minority Report was ok too, although it felt more Asimov than PKD, if you get what I mean.
