Like a P2P system? That wouldn't be good.

That was announced back at the beginning of the year, that they will essentially torrent updates, if you have the option set. That the option is set as a default for internet connected PCs is wrong IMHO, but it makes a lot of sense for local networks. My monthly volume is around 750GB without Windows 10 updates.

ISP - 'Stop torrenting!'
Customer - 'It's fcuking Microsoft! They've hidden the settings as usual!'

Totally agree If you could choose a machine on your home network to be the master and it could send out updates for your other machines that would be much more sensible. Otherwise you have several machines all downloading and sending out updates

I am on 10, once you de-activate all that X-Box/Hotmail bollocks, it's quite good really (only casual at home playing about)

Thank you for the on-brand correction. From now on I shall refer to the using its correct, corporate-approved branding.

Couldn't agree more. Not only is it selected by default but the upgrade to win10 has replaced the check for updates button . That's been moved to the sidebar. I genuinely didn't mind the subtle addition of the upgrade button in the task bar but since then it's being shoved in your face at every turn which is really p!ssing me off. Having moved from a Mac I am missing the hands off approach Apple took to big updates - it was there but very much your own choice to update. They just gradually (but much faster than MS) dropped support for older versions.
