I've no idea if she'd want to do it. She was involved with German Top Gear but I have no idea if that's even still a thing. But other than outright nationalism, she's probably the one existing TG fans would have least objections to. Give how divisive Evans is, it seems to me a good idea to have someone on who can bring the dissenting 'old schoolers' back onside. She's been on TV shows, yes. But then so has a tub of lard. Jon

What about Mark Webber, the whining Aussie ex-F1 driver, for those who don't know. He could be entertaining. Or Cameron Diaz? Now you're all wondering if I'm taking the piss...

I think he'd be an interesting left field choice actually. Dunno if any F1 driver actually needs to work for living after they finish though . She's just as qualified as Kidd is in terms of cars and probably much better in front of a camera. I don't think the beeb could afford her though. If we're going along that line, Amber Heard is possibly a better value candidate although her lap time was pretty poor. But that would just make her the new Captain Slow.

Crikey, I think we're straying into Fantasy League Top Gear here... Not that I'd complain about Amber taking a seat.

Top Gear? More like Groundhog Day | Kathryn Flett | Comment is free | The Guardian http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfre ... og-day-bbcI do have the same concerns for the endgame, though I couldn't care less about the CIN angle there.

Schmitz... She is already doing 2 or 3 shows over here. She does a tuning head-to-head, where 2 private tuners turn up at a track and their cars are assessed technically and then the thrashes them around the circuit to find out who the best tuner is. Then she does guest spots in Grip and other motoring shows. She was also in Top Gear Germany, but that was a complete flop, I don't even know if it lasted a season.

Just watched the Top Gear Clip and I have had a thought... They should make it law that whenever a TG clip with JC is played, it must have sad, slow, piano music played over top.

We just don't want to be involved in a cheap publicity stunt when they've almost certainly already decided who they want the hosts to be.

Well Chris hasn't chosen yet and I don't see why he would lie. Top Gear will be produced by him as well as presented. It's not like they need publicity. The Top Gear train does that for them.

You mean like a couple of weeks ago when he said he wasn't going to take the Top Gear job? No such thing as too much publicity.

If you had listened to him speak you would know the reasons why

That's a rather arrogant assumption, and it doesn't change the fact that he clearly did lie, despite having reasons for doing so. So... He could lie, and then come up with reasons why he did.

Negotiations would be under NDA. At that point a lot of things were in the air, and I’d expect that Evans was one of a few people they were talking to, and for him to publicly confirm interest may well have made other negotiations (even with incumbents) awkward.

Why is it arrogant? I'd rather believe what comes out of the horses mouth that the speculation that's been going on in the press for months. Watch the show on iPlayer yourself. Again. He has explained it all. Don't shoot the messenger.
