And be cutting out the unnecessary eye candy you cut down the amount of code required and therefore there are less potential bugs.

My home desktop is a plain back backgroud. My work one is a few pictures of my 4 month old son

Actually the main reason why I don't have a desktop background is that each of my 3 monitors is mostly taken up with a large Finder window in column mode.
