The thing with those characters is that they were totally 80s and look out of place in the modern world.

It sounded like a dumb idea from the get-go but this article makes it seem even worse, although that's not the intention. Short of Spider-Man, your superheroes should not be that young. George Miller seemed to have been selected almost purely for tax-break purposes in Oz. That script appears to make no sense in terms of the villains - even the choice of villains!
