But then I did spend 10 ish years in Birmingham and 5 years in Sheffield so i guess some of the words rubbed off

I don't see how speaking English without colloquialisms makes everyone South East english.

Hmm, spectacularly south east. This strikes me as very odd as I'm from Glasgow and my grandparents on one side were Geordies so I put in a fair few Geordie phrases. Grrr.
