Doesn't seem to be much going on in the AV subforum so posting here. For the first time ever, I've noticed burn in on a plasma TV. We use them at work to run screen displays. I run a presentation but the top of the presentation on each slide is a banner with the surgery name in big letters and contact details in small letters.

I've now noticed that the surgery's letters have burnt in slightly (seen when on the ubuntu desktop faintly but noticeable). I suspect there's not much I can do. Is it worth me doing something about it? The screens will only ever run the same presentation so won't be used for watching television etc and the TVs will probably be replaced only when they stop working.

EDIT: The screens are on Mon-Fri 0800-1830 and off the rest of the time.

Should I just let it carry on?
Should I try to stop it? If so, what should I do?

You can put a plain colour slideshow up, but it can take up to 100 hours to clear. So is it really worth it when the original slides are back up the next day?

Assuming it was even doable/worthwhile, what happens if the screen goes blank or whatever for a few seconds, is that enough to somewhat break the cycle and prevent further damage?

I think the question is whether it's worth bothering to sort at all. The banner at the top is the same on every slide. When I come to change/update the slides (as I did which is how I spotted it), the banner will still be there. The banner is plain white with black text so it is clear.

The alternative would to be do something about it. I could take the banner off and have a contacts slide every so often with the phone number and out of hours contact number.

The problem is that they are displaying the same slides for over 8 hours a day. We have on ours as well. Especially noticeable as we have been running the old layout for 3 years and now have a new CI.

You can also see it on LCD displays. My first LG was very bad (2002) and the display on my tablet also has it to a minor degree, it fades after a few seconds, but I can see after images of the desktop taskbar for a few seconds when I switch to another app. My iMac also suffers from it. The menu bar is still visible when I watch a movie or something full screen.

Can you have sides that are dynamic - by that I mean that in each cycle, elements are placed differently on the screen?

Why not have a flip chart instead - one of the receptionists could turn the page every so often

If they're showing the same set of slides all day every day, it seems to me a set of posters on the wall would be much better than a plasma telly. Not as swanky looking initially but better than a patently burned-in screen looks.

35 posters are a bit much and we wouldn't have space for them all. The idea is a way of notifying patients about various things. Posters mean you end up having to put them up and take them down frequently. Because of CQC, they'd also have to be laminated.

As an example, we had a flu vaccine day. So on the presentation, I added a slide detailing the date/times/eligible criteria. Now it's passed, I can change the details to whatever else I want and still have it up until the new year.

I guess I could flip the banner so the logo is on the right hand side on alternate slides. The slides change every 30 seconds so it wouldn't look too out of place. I could also remove the banner on slides that contain info from NHS england (eg no antibiotics for colds).

As for a dynamic screen, that's what my boss tried to do but failed. He was trying to get the screens to display stuff from a website. The screen was divided into quarters and each showed something different. The problem was it was too small, didn't work and meant the screens were unused for twelve months.

The logo will always be there and the screens are unlikely to ever be used for anything else. I would leave them as they are.

Do you really need the surgery name and contact details on the slides - after all, surely your patients know where they are and how to contact you?
