Names! Of course. Calling things like "C' mere, cooking fat" is probably where I was going wrong then

I agree that there certainly is a lot more traffic in here than there was in the old meeting place. It does seem that there's a great deal of random meaningless drivel happening though, duplicating threads and some people trying to increase their post count by whatever means. I hope it calms down because I doubt many people have the time to keep going to unread posts that have nothing to say.

I filter the noise by picking and sticking with threads that interest me.
There's a lot of randomness, but it's a lot quieter than Thursday and Friday last week!
I like the way the place is settling down to be more or less like the old place. It shows what a great community we'd built up that it can survive a major transplant in such a short space of time. Kudos to everyone that's come along for the ride.

It’s been a fairly painless transition, and the board has expended topics to cover a wider range of interests. It has also remained pretty cordial, which is a good thing to see. I think it will settle down over the next few weeks. I think at the moment, there’s a lot of energy being spent on wanting to make it a success.

I think Paul is right, a lot of people are trying to make this work, we don't really have any more randomness (in my eyes) than we did on the other boards...It's perhaps a little more focussed now, and game threads such as Dis or Dat/The person above, etc are getting a lot of attention, due to people putting effort and energy into this place.
There has also been a lot of duplication, how many people asked in the same 4 page thread for different skins or for links to open in new tabs? I know, I'll raise my hand to spamming here and there. But it's calming down already. I'm a little anxious to see where we'll be at by the end of the week...

It's all about staying power. I posted over on the other forums for over six years - I'll probably continue to post over on the MacUser boards when the forums relaunch, I'm not sure many other people stuck it out as long as I did and to the same extent. I remember the transition from the old, old board system to the phpBB one that just got de-activated. Let's wait and see how many people here are still here in six years time. (8+) Mark

Yup. I think it's because this isn't a forum anyone has just stumbled upon while looking for computer advice etc. Everyone here has made the move so they can carry on conversing with a good bunch of people.

What will happen when the new Denis boards come back online? Will we stay here or drift back? What if Denis recreates the common Meeting place and Comments boards?

I think thats going to be a big question until they decide if they're going to. My honest opinion is that people will stay here until a common board that we all like is re-created, that doesn't look likely to happen soon and in the mean-time I hope this site grows into something great.

it took years for the pcpro forums to get an update even longer to get a Linux forum time for the Dennis forums seems to run slower then time for us mere mortals if they do decide to change anything it will take 5 years to decide and another 5 years before its acted upon and then they will do so without informing anybody i will still visit the pcpro forms as i have done for years but the other forums on that site i will avoid …

I can't see myself posting on the PC Pro forums again, except maybe to give the address of this place. They have also managed to lose my custom as I'm really not interested in buying their magazines.

One thing that is interesting is the arrival of Barry Collins on the "in the news" forum...
