Shooting endangered animals? What sort of message is that supposed to give?

The protesters weren't much better, big and gentle? Don't they look at the news and how many people are killed by elephants?

Texan creationism showdown may 'contaminate' textbook

Quote:
If creationists in Texas get their way, high-school students throughout the US could soon be reading biology textbooks that falsely cast doubt on the scientific validity of evolution.

The outcome rests with the Texas State Board of Education, whose 15 members will decide in November whether to accept newly drafted biology textbooks, which may contain creationist arguments. Around a third of the board question the teaching of evolution and have sought to introduce amendments undermining its scientific case.

Texas is the second largest state purchaser of school books behind California, so versions sold in the state would likely be sold in other states too. "Texas could contaminate the education products sold in the rest of the country," says Dan Quinn of the Texas Freedom Network, set up to counter the influence of creationists.

Quinn and others fear that publishers vying to sell Texas their revised textbooks will capitulate to the wishes of the creationists to try and win a lucrative order. "Will they stick to their scientific guns or put the junk in, that's the question," says Quinn.

I love looking at images of nature, Animals landscapes etc. But I do wish people would refrain from seeing it as an opportunity to make the most inane, cloying comments about spirituality.

Photo of penguins: "ah, what can rival the the elegance of feathers!"

Photo of wolves: "the spirit of the ancient ones"

Photo of sunset: "God's promise of a new day"

etc. flippin eck, I know there's such a thing as a numinous, sublime experience confronted by natural vistas, but do you really only need a photo on Facebook to set you off? Or are you just being pretentious?

My connection's been up and down more times than Stephen Fry this week.
You've clearly never had need to contact their customer support.

Yes I have noticed that as well. It has been fine for a couple of days but I had a bad few days and then a complete blank for half an hour.

Their DSLAMs are always overcontended.
The rush in traffic from GTA online coming out overloaded their network this week.

Same as when iOS 7 & GTA5 came out the other week

Well I am tolerant of those issues because while I was one who caused last weeks slow down with iOS7 updates I appreciate that others want the same opportunity with GTA 5. 8-)

I think Sas' point is that you shouldn't have to be tolerant of anything.

Engineering by accountant yet again.

I think in this case that's unlikely actually. R* have and indeed have spent vast sums of cash of GTA5, yet made it all back and more in the first day of sales. There's certainly no sign of a resource shortage. IMO, this is simply a case of a publisher & developer who simply haven't ever done anything on this scale online before (Blizzard are about the only people who have) not doing their sums right pre-launch. The fact they seem to have been able to ramp up service provision relatively quickly suggest to me they could have got more resources for launch if they'd asked for them, they just didn't.
