Very engrossing race though - some great performances from Webber, Alonso, Di Resta and Hamilton. I particularly enjoyed the battle between Hamilton and Di Resta. The number of tyre failures is a huge concern though. Is it the tyres? Is it the kerbs? I'll wager it's a bit of both.

The less said about the McLarens' fortunes the better. That car is a dog.

Yeah, good race - shame about Lewis' tyre failure. One is bad enough but 5 tyre failures over a race weekend is not acceptable. Someone's going to be seriously hurt if that continues.

Pirelli are bringing new tyres to the German GP, after F1 drivers threatened to boycott the Nürburgring. This years rubber compounds with last years Kevlar banding, instead of steel.

I thought they went to steel for improved heat dissipation because there was increased likelihood blistering with the Kevlar banding?

Given the current belief that the problems at Silverstone were due to a critical mass of lower pressures, high track temps and drivers riding the raised kerbs at very high speeds, it seems Pirelli are getting a rough deal. The tyres were built to the FIA's spec afterall.

An interesting and tactical race today guys. Enjoyable.

Possible future team mate. Though would he still be the number one driver or would they have open team orders. It makes a difference to a driver.

Hmm, I always thought Kimi would be the least likely, despite the media getting into a frenzy over the idea. Ferrari have recently preferred a definite No.1 and No.2 driver so as not to take too many points off each other, but Massa has been too inconsistent these last few years so maybe someone of Kimi's experience and pace would be a better option. Can't see him moving over for Alonso as readily as Massa did yesterday though!

I thought Hulkenburg might have got it, especially after his excellent performance on Sunday's Italian race weekend. A shame Paul di Resta's last few races have been bad, I'd like to see him in a better car than the Farce India, but I doubt he was a top contender for the Ferrari drive anyway. So, that leaves openings at...

• Sauber (if they're still around next year, which is looking shaky at best),
• Lotus (again, finances are looking doubtful as Kimi's wages have been delayed this year) and,
• Torro Rosso (which will likely be filled by someone from the Red Bull driver programme).

Sauber have that 18 yr old Russian rookie pay driver lined up, don't they?

Lotus - is Grosjean safe? I'd like to see Di Resta and Hulk at Lotus. What happens to Massa if Alonso isn't taking a Sabbatical? Will he end up at Lotus, or might he displace Bottas at Williams - given the rumours about Brawn buying into them. He might end up at FIndia, if PDR gets a Lotus drive.

One thing I like about RBR is their commitment to bringing drivers into the sport. Pay drivers are killing it: Most of the bottom order teams' drivers have brought sponsorship with them. Maldonado is a nightmare, Perez is arguably the best pay driver but he's had his head up his ar$e since joining McLaren.

Ah, yes, I'd forgotten about that. Agree about the pay drivers killing the sport though - in a way, they've only got themselves to blame for not keeping costs down, now most lower ranking teams are in a position where they have little choice but to accept money for a paid driver. Sauber and Williams, in particular, need a thorough shake up, that's for sure - I hadn't heard the rumour about Brawn buying into Williams, interesting. I knew he was being pushed aside at Mercedes - a great shame IMHO - it would be a huge loss to F1 to lose a man of Ross' talent and experience from the grid. I hope he sticks around in another team, and I'd love to see Williams reinvent themselves again.

The ad money needs to be spread more evenly to avoid all the top teams becoming more entrenched. It makes the sport boring if you literally have no chance of winning when the big teams get most of the money because of the way funds are doled out because of the points allocation.
