It doesn't have to be the initial letter of words, it is the stressed sounds you make;

"Peter Piper Picked a Peck of Pickled Peppers" is but an obvious example.

Mountains of Corpses are fountains of sauces in pound tins and courses. I was just pointing out that if you were to write something as ear-bleedingly awful as "mountains of corpses" any half decent writer would notice the jarring repetition of the s sound and re-write it, unless they wanted to write a tongue twister ;)

Only if you're Sméagol would you stress the s in mountains yes, yes?

It's not about whether you choose to stress it or not.

The s effectively becomes the first letter of the next syllable, so "sof corp ses" is what you are actually saying.

"Yosemite Sam" has alliteration despite 's' not being the first letter of the word, it is sem and sam that stand out. It's just a trick of the way we listen to words and pick out patterns. Poetry exploits that little quirk of our brains to pick out repeated sounds.

Alliteration is a form of consonance where the consonance corresponds with the meter of the line. It's one of the easiest to spot features of writing, hence why it's used (over-used) in advertising and public messages, because it draws attention to itself. Hence when writing you should generally avoid it unless you intended to put it there in the first place and draw attention to how something sounds rather than the meaning of the words.

Mountains of corpses is unfortunate, and probably wouldn't stand out as much if it wasn't plucked out of context and put in the trailer on its own. But it's not helped by the way the actor seems to chew the scenery over the line.

You must find it difficult to take sausages seriously.

Especially if they're being cooked. They sizzle.

You've just proved my point, would you expect an action hero to say the word sausages in the heat of the action? Joss Whedon not included, because he does it deliberately and then will have his characters discuss how silly the word sausages sounds and how they won't say that again next time they kill someone etc.

Darling, say you will come back to me, leave her... you know you always did love the smell of sizzling sausages, I will cook you up a batch.

Ruins the mood somewhat doesn't it?

No, because tasty meat treats and cooking don't make much sense to an action hero, unless there was some relevance to the script's location.
Now, mountains of corpses (I'd have preferred 'a mountain' btw) does kind of make sense if you're killing a bunch of people, and are keen to emphasise you commitment to this cause.
Terribly cliched, but there we are. It's an action movie. With Keanu.

Did I say they should never use the word corpses? NO, only be aware that there's a high ratio of s sounds in that word, so having mountains of them may sound rather silly. Let's try it out. Hills of corpses, piles of corpses, gutters of corpses, streets of corpses.

Even bodies sounds wrong, mountains of bodies.

People mock 300 but though crammed with cheesy one-liners, it was very well-written - I'm not saying they should talk about sewing instead.

Right, which is why I prefer 'a mountain of corpses'.
Two 's' sounds, an unavoidable occurrence should you wish to indicate a plural of something with an 's' in it. ;)

Yes that sounds fine, hence you've just avoided it, hence it's avoidable; everything is avoidable, that's the beauty of English, when we hear something ugly, we'll adopt the French or even Latin way of saying it etc before letting an awkward sound infect our ears.
