If the CoE is so bothered by the plight of the poor, why doesn't it set up a 'break even' credit union in each church and put the likes of Wonga out of business overnight? Oh yeah, it wants to help the poor, just not if it costs anything.

Jon

They can't set up a credit union. They cannot lend money to anybody, it is written in the Bible! That is why all pawn shops in the old days were run by Jews, because the church forbid Christians to lend money.

They could hand out alms, but they cannot charge Interest to UK citizens, just Johnny Foreigner... :?

This is the Church of England we're talking about. Believing what's in the Bible is pretty much optional.

On my way home, passed on a dual carriage way (at speed) by a four seat convertible with the roof down with a dog roaming around unsecured on the back seat.

If you're going to print codes inside packaging you might want to do so with something that doesn't rub off.
Trying to redeem a cinema ticket code and there is a missing letter. Gah!

A major lure will be that customers can collect double Nectar points on any top-up made.

Tesco did offer triple clubcard points on top ups or credit. Still not good enough to entice me. I went with Three in the end.

Got £15 off a £60 spend at Sainsburys. It still works out cheaper to buy at Tesco, never mind Asda.

Is that the same voucher they always give us? The £15 off if you spend £60 ONLINE.
Given that I would never do grocery shopping online this is not very useful to me.

That's the one. Even f you're doing the sort of big shop that most people do when ordering online it still doesn't add up! And their selection's crap even in comparison to Asda.

I could never remember the different prices at each store. Fortunately there is mysupermarket they show the difference in prices. There was a very short period when Sainsbury were the cheapest, but not for long. A 25% discount is not to be sniffed at, though not good if elsewhere is still cheaper.

You wind up substituting everything for something expensive they've got so little choice, relatively.

That might be the case where you are. Though near me they do have some big stores. You are right about substitutions. I do the bulk of my shopping online and Tesco have a decent substitutions policy. In fact I love getting better substitutions when I have ordered value groceries for the same price. With Asda they charge you more, which is a disaster if customers are on a tight budget. Plus Asda put two claims against your credit card with orders, even if they only make one payment.

I will admit that I have not used them for just that reason. They are still overpriced around here. Though if I am out with a friend he shops there and I only go for clearance bargains when I am there.
