True.

Like someone said on the BBC, due to the fact that music sales now mainly take place through downloads he will eternally have the number one selling physical album of all time.

That's a hell of an achievement.

He was an ace musician, I won't comment on his personal life.

This is a great blow for music, like the day Mozart died.

What's the spoken part from Thriller? "I'm not like the other boys" or words to that effect...

I've always imagined he really was a Peter Pan, simply not wanting to grow up. So yes, he liked to play with kids - because he was a kid. I like to think it really was quite innocent, and a lot of people tried to take advantage of him. It saddens me that I believe he was also rather lonely and insecure.

What ever the truth about his personal life, there is absolutely no doubt that the guy was a absolute genius entertainer. There a few moments in his career so high that no one will ever beat it.

The reason i'm not going to comment on his personal life is that I think he was completely innocent, just a little messed up in the head. And it's bad form to speak ill of the dead...

An amazing dancer, a stonkingly good beatboxer and not bad at singing either!

In their respective eras of history they achieved about the same...

They both died young (for their time)

And both could have written much more music.

I'm more of a Mozart fan, but still I can draw the comparison with no qualms.

I'm with JJW.

No matter the allegations about his private life in later years, and the silliness of his constant plastic surgery, he was a supreme musical talent and certainly got me into listening to music when I was younger.

What Big_D said.

I'm still trying to assimilate the news. The man was only a few years older than me, but what an amazing and strange life he had.

Does anyone mind if I remain a little sceptical about this whole thing? I don't mean it in a disrespectful way, but it fits to my mind.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around this one.

Poor Michael, I am genuinley sad that he has gone. Feel like I've lost a leg or something.

I grew up listening to Micheal Jackson, My dad is a huge fan, and now I am.

Awh, I feel like going to watch a really crap horror flick with a tub of strawberry cheesecake hagendaz. :(

I came in this morning, and the jokes have already started.

Jon: "Hey Kels, did you know what time Michael Jackson died last night?"
Kels: "Well Sam phoned me at 10 to tell me, but I don't know if it was the right time though?..."
Jon: "I heard [sing]it was close to miiiiiiiiiidniiiiiiight![/sing]" *laugh*
Kels: *Stare*

I am not really phased by this one way or another. Clearly people liked him, but I have never liked his music - I have one track by him - that’s on a Paul McCartney CD, and it’s definitely the worst track on the album.

Yes, it’s sad that someone has died, but really, screaming and wailing in the streets? Please.

Actually, I think Mitch Benn sums up my feelings exactly.
Quote:
The sense of loss at seeing the reams of footage currently being broadcast across the news channels of Jackson at his astonishing best back in the early to mid 80s is no more acute than the sense of loss I've been experiencing for years now, whenever that poor frightened skeletal creature that was all that remained of him was hauled out blinking into the glare of the public gaze. The Michael Jackson who thrilled and amazed the world has, let's face it, been gone for a long time. I'm not sure I can miss him anymore now than I already did.

I'm likely to be shot for this:

(guns cocked)
To be honest I think he peaked with Thriller and Bad and hasnt done anything as good since. They are classic albums and pop music was all the better for them. So were black artists and MTV. He did a lot during those years. But since......
(aim)
Showing clips from his personal life this morning though reminded me just how crazy he was. The baby over the railing incident was in particular a low point. The guy obviously had some serious issues. Its funny how many people defend his exploits as innocent too. If your neighbour was accused of doing the same things would you let your kids stay over?
(fire!)

Oh and in the intests of bad tatse.....

Reports are untrue that Michael Jackson died at his home from a heart attack. He was in fact found on the childrens ward in the hospital having a stroke.

Veato, everyone has right to their own opinions, no need for the guns! :P

One thing I can say is, yes, he's had up and downs, yes he has peaked, he's also in some, if not alot of debt, and was trying hard to pay that back.

In what way, is that any diffrent from any one of us?
