Heh, I've just been reading about the Fiesta. Good reviews all round from what I saw :)

The Escort/Focus and the Fiesta have generally always been excellent cars. It's when Ford has gone a bit off-piste (e.g. The Probe) that things have gone a bit pear shaped.

Hmm, Mk I Mexico or a Mk I or Mk II RS2000, hmmm.

There is somebody in a village on the way to work with a Mk 1 Fiesta for sale. Looks like it is still in mint condition.

The Fiesta's from the late 80s on weren't so good (I had a dozen or so as hire cars). They were okay, but they lost something over the Mk 1 and Mk 2. The last couple of generations seem a lot better than the 80s and 90s models.

I had an '88 Escort 1.3 Pop as my first new car. It was great, but I've never really warmed to the Focus, although the again, the latest generation seems very good, but I haven't had a chance to drive one.

I had a string of Sierras, but I never liked them - probably because I ended up spinning them and wrote 1 off! The Mondeo was much better, I had a 99 and a 2004. The 99 was okay, but felt very "Ford", the 2004 felt like a real quality car.

The Probe wasn't that bad, certainly better than some of the Fiesta variants, like the Fusion! I liked the Cougar, it was a nice drive, but not as much fun as the VW Corrado VR6 Storm.

We had a turbo diesel as a pool car, and it was terrible. I don't know if it was just knackered, but the suspension was so soft it couldn't corner at all. The thing wallowed along leaving you sea-sick.

Also, the turbo-lag was mind bendingly bad. I almost got myself killed pulling out in front of a truck, and then having no power at all for what seemed like an hour. The truck was miles away when I started the manoeuvre!

It was nice on the motorway though, where it was flat and straight with no cross wind. Plenty of grunt even in top gear at 70mph.
