Year, my first five year service award from Halliburtion was a cheap fossil watch. To be fair you could choose from a list, but that was the best of a bad bunch. Even grannies in their 90's would have found some of the things on the list outdated.
Since I left and came back again a few years later, I can look forward to a five year service award again in a year and a half.

the pen costs a "cheap" £255, but if I make it to 20 years I can get £1000 towards a permanent gift and a silver photo frame.

I've got a Mont Blanc fountain pen, which was bought for me by the Wench when we got engaged (she felt her getting a ring was rather one sided). It's an absolutely lovely thing and I use it near enough daily. Other pens just feel horribly scratchy and unpleasant to write with by comparison.
