They did specifically say that they upgraded to assimilate non-humans. It could be a curious mix. None of the upgrades involve any visible change. If we see one with a sink plunger stuck in it's head, we'll know things have taken a turn...

The face decoration was the most obvious element, but the distributed processing/hive mind is also a Borg trait as is the ability to adapt (upgrade) on the fly. As you can probably tell, I wasn't very impressed, but then I personally find Neil Gaiman massively over-rated.

The Daleks had Robomen in the past, and the were those more modern versions in the Asylum of the Daleks.

I'm inclined to agree with him. What I've seen of Gaiman's work has been... serviceable. Fine. Good enough. Never that great, and not at all worth the adulation a section of the nerdy community bestows upon him. He is the literary Josh Whedon.

Well, I think his first episode of Who The Doctor's Wife was quite possibly the best Who episode I've seen, but it's true that his other TV stuff has fared rather poorly, and while there was some great Doctor moments in this recent ep, I feel overall it was a bit passable. His literary work, on the other hand, is always top notch. I can't ever recall reading anything of his that I thought was merely passable, it's always been very very good. Mark

Remember he's not in control of the final cut. The article Paul linked suggests his original script was significantly different, and significantly darker.

Haven't read that article that Paul so very kindly linked to here yet. I'll be doing that before the end of this shift though. Mark

I realise it's probably heresy to post stuff like this on an internet forum, but apart from his biography of Douglas Adams, I have yet to read anything by Gaiman that I've found remotely interesting. "American Gods" which I am told is one of his "classic" books I found particularly dull. I'm sorry but I simply can't see what all the fuss is about.

It was an interesting read, and it seems that he wanted to make the Cybermen more scary by making them quiet - metallic ninjas! The final episode had them making a lot more noises that is necessary. Oh - I predict Cybermite toys like Hex Bugs. There are times when I see new Who and think "toy".

Remember it still is a "young" persons/family programme and the bbc would be insane not to exploit the merchandising possibilities. Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk 2

I don't think anyone was suggesting toys are a bad idea

Not here. Special Weapons Dalek by hairydalek, on Flickr http://www.flickr.com/photos/hairydalek ... 559808582/It’s just obvious that when Matt Smith produces the Sonic Screwdriver prop, that kids will want one too. When I see a new monster, a new thing, I wonder how that would become a play thing. I am really hoping they do Dalek eye stalks on suckers so that kids and fix them to their foreheads. BBC has to make extra money from outside of the license fee, and Doctor Who is clearly a big money spinner for them.

I have a fairly recent 5cm tall Cyberman, but that's all from WHO. I love the idea of a Dalek eye on a sucker. I may investigate making one. So many opportunities to use it, especially when friends pass out
