The first change of mind was logical but costly. I blame the previous government for obviously making the wrong choice in the first place.

Yes but the military brass should have been clearer as well. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk.

As part of the "upgrade" process at work, we have to have smart card log-ins. We have already updated all computers to IE8 (WinXP pro) but the security software won't work on anything higher than IE7.

I'm on IE10 for the rare moments I use it. Just to check, this is a "new" system which only works with obsolete software from 2006 or earlier which is not available on a new computer? And insult to injury, it's "security" software which only works on an insecure platform? The expressions "unfit for purpose" and "you lost the tender" come to mind.

This is the NHS! Billions were spent on hardware and software yet none of it works between systems.
The software I use to record patients' notes was first developed in the 1990s. It's entirely keyboard driven. The company have made a new program that's supposed to be "up to date" and which is supposed to be more fancy and mouse driven. However, it doesn't interface with our ordering system for medication.
The software will require us to insert a smart card into the reader on the keyboard and type a PIN. Currently I log in with a two-letter username and a password.
I have asked about whether we'll get upgraded systems, but having had a chat with a local practice, it appears not. So we'll all be running WinXP Pro on hardware from 2004 and software that requires IE6/7. If that's the case, I'm gonna buy some RAM and a small SSD and speed up my computer. I have already updated to IE8 but by the look of things, I'll need to make FF the default browser and leave IE7 for the software.

I just received a "special offer" for a cinema ticket. The offer is about £1 more expensive the on-line price I usually pay...

Every day. I was going to say without fail, but... And that's partly why I forward my mail to another provider

I do the same, but do not run any mail through Outlook so it is not really an issue for me. Though for some it can be a right pain.
