Hmm, here in Germany most supermarkets actually sell tubs of street chalk for making drawings on the pavement and road...

If anything it is the least destructive method possible. Chalk will wash away in the rain, it is hardly permanent.

And people wonder why the police don't seem as welcome in the community as they were back in the day. What a pair of f!ckwits.

I think that they are pushed to by payment for results, so more cautions given or arrests. It seems like common sense has left the police service and the home secretaries who promote these policies.

They didn't do either in this case. They just scared a little girl. This is the diametric opposite of what the police are supposed to be there for. And in the process they've significantly harmed what reputation their force has left. The pair of them deserve carpeting.

Yes but the push for detections and the target culture is what is eliminating common sense. Community officers should never be pushed for results. A community with little crime does not need such policing. These officers should be sent for re-training.

They've known that for years! Tarmac Toasters was one of the more polite names I've heard for them...

Nothing a few hundred tons of asbestos wouldn't fix?

Why they never ordered CATOBAR carriers in the first place is beyond me. Better in every way except the initial outlay, but you save most of that on cheaper jets.

Yes it did surprise me when they went for bigger carriers as well, which would have made catapults sensible.

I think they were just desperate for the F35-B to be built as it used more British made parts. Daft idea to to one or two companies shirt term financial gain over the usefulness of a 50 carrier lifespan.

Thing is, the companies that are set to make the short term financial gain have many friends in the departments running the procurement process...

I suspect most of the cost overruns are down to the ministry changing the spec. Then changing their minds again.
