The first vacuum cleaner I remember was an Indesit hoover "ankle biter". We had it for 5 yrs IIRC. My mother had only used it earlier in the week before it just stopped working. We then bought an upright Dyson. It was embarassing to find the cylinder was full after doing just the living room. In fact it took three rounds of vacuuming before the carpets were clean. Lasted 10-11 years before it stopped working. We then bought another Dyson but this was a cylinder/ankle biter as it was easier for my mother to push around rather than the cylinder. So far it's been going 5-7 years I think. Working fine so far.
What I love about Dyson is that if there's a problem, there's an indepth step-by-step walk through of how to check each section. I love that level of support.

Just bought a new Dyson ankle-biter, our last one was an upright but after 10 years solid service it was starting to struggle. Amazed to see how much suction we had lost from the old model, the lounge carpet looks like new again!

I can't remember the name of ours, but we've never looked back since buying it six or seven years ago.

We went for the DC39 Animal, there was a trade in deal so we took the knackered unit in and got a good few quid knocked off the price. Had to spend a good half hour in the shop with the darling wife trying different makes and models before we ended up buying the one I'd wanted in the first place. It's powerful, very light and comes with just about every attachment you could want. The only thing it doesn't do is auto adjust for carpet and hard flooring, but there is a version that will do that.
Hmmmmm. Just looking at the Dyson sight and I'm sure the costs have switched round with the 'Animal' version now more expensive than the 'multi-floor', but I'm sure last weekend in Curries it was the other way round.

Ours is an animal and does multi-floor. It's a pretty old model though.

Just checked. It's is the DC20 Animal. Like I said. It's and old design now, but it still works well.

I am looking into the idea of a Dyson Ball ankle biter. Though with the trade in it can make the animal a viable option. Now I need to see if I can get a cash back deal somewhere.

I have a DC23 Animal. We bought the animal version because my dad insists on having a straggly long beard and it's shedding long wiry white hairs everywhere.

I do not need an animal version, unless I get a pet, but that is something to decide on another day.
