The financing of low budget films like Veronica Mars which has a TV following might make sense for some projects, but not all. Though I think a Firefly Kickstarter might be more expensive. Though crowdsourcing might make sense for independents, Though for larger support there could be returns if the project is successful, though over time there need to be producers with a track record of bringing projects in on budget.

Well it's not like she ever has to actually work again... she's estimated to be worth £24 million and £43 million (depending on which paper you read).
