First 7" was Land of Makebelieve by Bucks Fizz First LP was A Kind of Magic by Queen
I have absolutely no recollection what the first cassette, CD, 10", 12", picture disc or box set was.

First album (vinyl): Big Terror Movie Themes by the Geoff Love Orchestra. I wanted the Jaws theme track. This was followed by Big Bond Movie Themes and then John Williams' Star Wars soundtrack album.
First rock album (cassette): Meat Loaf's Dead Ringer. Then AC/DC's For Those About To Rock (gatefold vinyl). It's been downhill from there ever since!
I've got a few things in the iTunes library which may appear a little incongruous. Amongst a mostly metal collection of bands like Metallica, Slayer, Mayhem, Motorhead and so on, I have the 3CD Pennies From Heaven soundtrack - which is mainly Big Band music from the 1930's - a real favourite, one country track - The Dixie Chicks' Tonight The Heartache's On Me - and a couple of Bee Gees tracks!

The first thing I ever bought was either Now 26 or a movie themes cassette. First CD was Dance Tip '95 IIRC. Used to love pop music... in fact I still do, just not the contemporary bollocks. It's mostly classic rock now though. I miss the days of bothering to learn names and actually listening to the radio I'm just thinking I haven't heard a good new rock band since Velvet Revolver or Chickenfoot, whichever came last.

The first music I ever bought was "Hellraiser" 7" single by The Sweet, from Boots in the days when their bigger stores also sold things like records,
The first album on vinyl I bought was "The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars" by David Bowie.
The first 12" single I bought was "Bela Lugosi's Dead" by Bauhaus on white vinyl.
The first CD I bought was "The Mix" by Kraftwerk - bought on the same day that I bought my CD player.
I've only ever bought one download which was "Hard Rock Pafe" by Tropico Q and that was only because I wanted the music on my iPod when I went on holiday and the CD I had ordered from HMV Japan still hadn't arrived the day before I left.

I can't really answer this question.
If I have to pick one favourite band it would be ELO, in all its incarnations that involve Jeff Lynne. Then, of course, I really like Jeff Lynne's work as a musician and producer, so what I'm really saying is I like Jeff Lynne rather than ELO.
And then there are all the other bands I like.
This question is too hard.

Ha! I've got that And that I had a lot of music bought for me as a kid but when I started saying the pennies and buying myself my first 7" single was Tainted Love by Soft Cell I have a very varied collection so I'm sure someone looking through would think WFT? I"m not a metal fan but have everything else from punk to opera. Some of my all time favourite artists include Abba, Elvis, Queen, Lloyd Cole, Paul Weller's stuff, The Waterboys, Simon & Garfunkel, ELO, Heaven 17, Adam Ant & Blow Monkeys.

I didn't see the documentary, sadly. That's like asking which is my favourite foot. There's at least two tracks on every album, sometimes more.

I keep playing Rockaria recently. Lots of good memories of bombing down the M3 with my Dad on the way to Southampton with ELO blaring

I am the same, I have loads of favourite tracks but could never thin it down to a number for Desert Island Discs.

I did a Desert Island Disks evening with some of my musical friends.
This was my selection: Seven Seas Of Rhye by Queen Being Boiled (Travelogue version) by The Human League Steppin' Out by Joe Jackson Doot-Doot by Freur The Rattler by Goodbye Mr MacKenzie New Wave Jacket by Polysics World's End Supernova by Kuruli The District Sleeps Tonight by The Postal Service
It was a couple of years ago, but I think at the moment that selection still stands.

Those first three are very good tracks but would not make my top ten, but would certainly be in my top 100. I have them all and am now listening to them.
