But it's not a spelling error. The word is spelt perfectly - it's just not the right one.

There's no such chemical as 'Dioxyribonucleic acid'.

To be pedantic, if there was then that could be the right spelling.

To be pedantic, I never said it was a spelling error. Labelling a known chemical with the name of a non-existent chemical, even if the name of that non-existent chemical is nomenaclaturely (note: I may have just made that word up) correct, is still an error.

I'm not convinced it would be the correct nomenclature.

Asked a colleague if he'd had his daughter christened.
"Yes, Al, you were there. You did the photos."

Microsoft's 64GB Surface Pro will only have 23GB usable storage

It appears that the Windows 8 install, built-in apps, and a recovery partition will make up the 41GB total on the base Surface Pro model.

I started my new job in August. Holidays run from Jan-Dec. I was told (around mid-November) that I could have three weeks holiday for Aug-Dec (I had assumed pro-rata). Having taken a week off and been on courses etc, that left ten days of annual leave I could take. Because Xmas was around the corner, it was a little too late to take an entire run of five days at a time but I could take random days off here and there. I opted to get paid for the ten days instead and was offered the same rate as our locum doctor gets. "Awesome!" I thought.

Turns out after everyone else gets their hands on that money, my daily rate was only very slightly higher than my current rate. Wished I had taken the days off instead. Particularly as the locum doctor pays less tax than I do! Next year, I plan to take all of my annual leave.

How is this any different to any other Windows PC? My Sony came with nearly 100GB swallowed up by recovery partition, crapware etc. Once I had uninstalled the crapware and nuked the recovery partition, I got back about 40GB.

Yes. but that is a mobile phone with its OS in ROM, we are talking about a standard Windows PC in tablet format here. Two completely different beasts.

True, but the fact that you can get touch screen OS's with such a small footprint, just make the lack of space with windows 8 harder to swallow.

It's worth remembering we're people who would have more of a clue with these things, but even I was surprised at how much space you're 'losing' without tinkering for the cost of the device. I'd be very wary of deleting the recovery partition even though it can be backed up; the amount of burnt backup discs and sticks I've seen fail to work for whatever reason.
