J.J. Abrams set to direct ‘Star Wars: Episode VII’

J.J. Abrams is set to direct “Episode VII.”

Sources have confirmed the “Star Trek Into Darkness” filmmaker will helm the next “Star Wars” movie, the highly anticipated installment in the landmark franchise scheduled to reach theaters in 2015.

“Star Wars: Episode VII” will be written by Michael Arndt, the Oscar-winning screenwriter of “Little Miss Sunshine” and “Toy Story 3.”

Simon Kinberg and Lawrence Kasdan have been tapped to write “Star Wars” projects as well, but it’s unclear whether their scripts will be for future episodes or for films outside the official trilogy.

The upcoming trilogy of new films was announced Oct. 30 when the Walt Disney Co. went public with its plans to acquire Lucasfilm for $4.05 billion.

While he is a capable director, I am not so sure that he is a good choice.

He's consistent and has history of improving on somewhat bolloxed franchises, I can't think of anyone better tbh :)

Kevin Feige reveals the characters that will lead Marvel Films' Phase Three

I've seen nothing in comics or animation to make me give a crap about those two, so I hope any films will be much better!

I have vaguely heard of the first one and know nothing about the second. However, I do like the way they're going with this. It actually seems like someone thought it all through, unlike the DC equivalent line up that's "planned".

+1, DC definitely aren't on as sure a footing. I like that Marvel are at least giving the less-known characters a shot.

Better than I thought it would be... Still not sure if I would want to go to the cinema to see it though.

Spider-Man 2 casting rumour, a slightly curious one (also lists everyone else so far)

http://www.empireonline.com/news/feed.asp?NID=36322

I'd like to see that, Spider-Man was far better the reviews suggested.

David S. Goyer Discusses His Approach To Superman For MAN OF STEEL!!

I'm much more curious to see it now f that's indeed what they go for, though I'm not sure if it'll have enough balance then to be a blockbuster from what I've seen. We won't know until it hits, but something just feels off IMO. And then there's (contains a TDKR spoiler)...

This is the problem with DC characters, you haven't as much scope for keeping things 'light'.
