To me, it more resembles Monty Python's parrot sketch than the Fork Handles sketch. And, to be honest, the only thing it really has in common with either is it's a conversation between a customer and a shop owner. Jon

It's playing with homophones, that's the entire humorous proposition of the sketch; the confusion between things that sound the same. The dead parrot sketch is merely absurdism.

I'm not sure I agree. 'Fork Handles' does play with homophones, it plays with the way phonemes get together to make words and sentences and how they can be misheard. The newer sketch doesn't. None of the words are misheard. It plays with meaning, with how the literal same word can mean different things in different contexts. In the first sketch, the joke is about how 'fork handles' sounds a bit like 'four candles'. In the second sketch, it's about how 'Blackberry' sounds a bit like.. 'Blackberry'. That's just not the same joke. The newer sketch is entirely about the absurd. It's basis is a man who treats a small soft fruit as if it was a mobile phone. 'Fork handles' is about the use of sounds, 'My blackberry doesn't work' is about the use of meanings. The two things are not the same. I'd concede that I rather doubt we'd have the latter sketch if the former had never been written, for sure - in fact it's definitely a homage to Corbett's role in the first - but it's not a ripoff as such.

The British one is amusing. I liked this bit: I have to confess I could not name even half of the places with their corresponding relationships to the Crown.

There's a stretched Ford F-150 and a pink hummer that do the hen party and high school dance circuits down here.

I don't understand it. It's a word. Clearly the guy isn't racist and would not have been using it in a racist way.
