We have a funeral date now - which is early in the New Year.

Good luck with it. Had my Mum's last friday. I did 6 A3 boards with pictures on for the wake and they were very well received. Was great to put pictures up of my Mum at different stages of her life and I even got some more stories from people who attended about the pictures.

I picked up the boards from a local art shop and printed copies at work which I spray mounted.

I think the important thing would be to celebrate your Gran's life. Send her off on a high note, as it were. She was obviously a very special person and deserves to be remembered with affection.

+1

And don't stick to all black if you don't want to.

:-) I tend to wear black most of the time anyway, so it won’t be a massive departure for me anyway.

My grandma would be terribly embarrassed by all of this - and she didn’t really want us to have the fuss of a funeral, which is part of her reasoning for leaving her body to science. My mum’s side of the family have a very pragmatic and medical view of all of this (certainly both my maternal grandparents did, and I have got that particular gene) - the body isn’t the person, and not much fuss should be made over its disposal. My mum is organising a humanist to do whatever humanists call a service (I have only experienced a humanist wedding - wasn’t much impressed myself). I’ve told my mum what my thoughts were, and she’s no doubt been talking to my sister and my dad too, and is organising what she feels is fit for the day. We’ll hopefully not be too morose - there will be a trip to a pub afterwards for drink and larks, I hope.
