Guns don't kill people, people kill people, guns just make it a little bit easier, especially when readily available.

Short version : People with guns are much more able to kill people than people without guns. Since they can't get rid of people...

Long Version : I'd agree with the notion that there are other, deep rooted problems in American society that contribute towards the Americans going on gun rampages more often than the rest of the world's developed populations, even those that have common gun ownership. Guns are not the totality of the problem. However I'd argue that these other issues existing means that Americans should actually have less access to guns than the rest of the developed world, not vastly more than most. If one kid is more clumsy than the rest of the class, you don't give that kid the big sharp pair of scissors.

And even more so when prevalent in a fearful culture. The Swiss and the Canadians seem to manage okay.

That is in response to Tim. Should have quoted.

This is what I said, you decided not to quote that part.

I decided not to agree with the 'little bit' part.

I think that the Swiss do have the occasional gun incident but nothing like elsewhere. I think education and training are part of the solution. Though Canada has similar gun ratios to the US but few such incidents. I think it might be down to the collective nature of the societies. The US is more of a dog eat dog society and eventually even dogs snap.

Can we pull the gun posts into a separate thread? There are posts in random sh!t, What's on your mind, and in the news section.

I mostly think Michael Moore is a bell end, but when he pointed out america's fearfulness as being the root cause of most of their gun crime in bowling for columbine, I found it very hard to disagree.

Sorry cw, I can see that this is not really random [LIFTED], was just responding to posts.

Michael Moore shouldn't be fully trusted.

But that doesn't mean he doesn't say very profound things.

This thread often goes off on mini conversations.

Yes but overall I prefer Michael Moore's view of the world than say George W Bush or Mitt Romney.

I switched it off - don't even think she'd finished her first sentence. I know the Ulster accent's generally horrific, but that's something else :(

ION, that Bat-copter's the funniest thing I've seen in days
