AFAIK you pay for a bolt-on which gives you the ability to use your phone tethered. However, I'm not sure if that limits you to a maximum download, or if it's unlimited. I'd imagine you buy it in chunks. There are details on the o2 website, but of course it's all very different for business customers. In that case, stereo bluetooth sounds like what you want? ::EDIT:: Tethering details HERE. It is very expensive indeed. Consumers can get a 3GB bolt-on for £15 or a 10GB bolt-on for £30. You'd be better off getting a 3G dongle seperately!

Well it did, I still carried my iPod around because of variety of music, don't bother with my new phoen as I have that much storage and it has a built in 3.5mm jack so I can use my headphones I rearely use the stylus on mine having installed SPB Mobile Panel 3.0 (2.0 is free and almost as good) Well the benefits in higher definition gaming and video In all honesty it was a weird area, my W800i used a pro duo which was easy to get and cheap, my k800i used M2 which was expensive and my K850i used M2 or microSD which was great Does it support A2DP? That is a standard for audio streaming my k800/k850i supported and also my newer X1. It's pretty standard as bluetooth 2.0 I believe. As for tethering, I think it's unfair to charge more if you have unlimited data as it is...

Yes, it is A2DP. I agree about the data charges - it does seem unfair, but to be honest I think that £35 a month would have been incredibly cheap if it had included tethered internet too. Perhaps they will bring out a tariff which includes unlimited internet whether tethered or untethered.

We can dream That's not really an "Apple" issue though - not much they can do about the British mobile network. I'm absolutely sure they'd provide a stylish unlimited package, but o2 would have a heart attack at the prospect of people torrenting 1TB a month The prices are steep though. I best make sure I DL all my ISOs before I get to site and find they're not on line yet, and just use the Nokia or a dongle for the VPN to the office. It's crazy it's more expensive than many other data tariffs. My usage would be about 100Mb a month average, but the odd ISO a couple of times a year when I wasn't expecting something.

You, maybe not. But MMS and tethering were two of the big announcements at WWDC and two of the things the crowd made the biggest noise about... Especially when it was then announced that AT&T won't support either of them when they are released! What about copy and paste? My circa 2000 Nokia could copy contact information from an SMS and put it paste it into my contact list, or forwarding an SMS to a third party... As I said, the iPhone itself is very innovative, but it has lacked some basic features. The reaction of some Apple fans, when these missing features now appear is amazing. They don't say "about bloody time!" They go into raptures of ecstasy. Which leaves the non-iPhone users wondering what the big deal is. Edit: My Touch Pro has a stylus, but I only use it when playing one game, the rest of the features work fine with just my sausage fingers. I get tethering as standard with my 'phone, but only 200MB of data in a month - I've used about 200KB this month. But I can get an unlimited data package for €10 from O2.

I do love this reaction to the iPhone, it smacks of Apple fanboys/girls from the '90s when discussing Windows: "But, but, but ... Apple has been doing that for years." More than 20 million iPhones later it's clear that people couldn't give a dog's left one that the original iPhones didn't have functions that "even basic (')phones" had. What the original iPhone did do was blow away the opposition in terms of interface, ease of use and multi-function abilities. Yes, other (')phones had "touch" interfaces. Yes, other (')phones could play music. And yes, other (')phones could get you on the internet. The trouble was, they were all rubbish and awkward to use unless you were an uber-geek who believed technology should be as difficult to use as possible. With the iPhone, Apple made a (')phone for normal people and guess what - normal people bought it, in spades. Only now are other manufacturers beginning to take their interfaces and the user experience seriously. But really, if you still think of the iPhone as a simply a (')phone then you're stuck in the '90s. A bit like those pouting fanboys/girls.

Bubble breaker? I find I need it on mine because there are so many bubbles on the screen That said the X1 Spore game runs fine on WVGA with no stylus, same for pretty much everything I do now http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/pocketp ... bileshell/I think the themes is something else the iPhone can't do

My mobile is a Sony Ericsson W800i - used to be Fins, IIRC. Now, like the iPhone, it plays MP3s, it can go online, it can make and receive phone calls and texts, I can download apps onto it. Unlike the iPhone, I can sync it via Bluetooth with just about anything (no A2DP). I do need proprietary Sony Ericsson headphones though. However, the Sony Ericsson crashes frequently - I've missed calls because for some inexplicable reason, sometimes it just doesn't make any sound. The screen is terribly small, and thanks to the construction of it, gathers dust. When I first took it apart to clean it, you'd be surprised at how much tobacco was in it, Fin! The music player is certainly not a patch on an iPod. It's far less intuitive, and it doesn't do shuffle. Playlist only. And, from what I've seen, I need Sony Ericsson headphones, which aren't terribly good. The controls on the phone are patchy. Sometimes the joystick doesn't like doing 'down'. Sometimes it then catches up with all the 'down' I've been putting into it. Which is annoying. Games on the phone are terrible. Screen's too small, too low res and the keypad is too cramped for much more than 3 buttons to be useful. Getting online - costs an arm and a leg, and the browser is rubbish. I have to rely on vastly cut down version of the sites I visit. I once tried bidding on an eBay item while away from the Mac with it. What a mistake that was - cost me loads to do the bidding and I lost the item anyway. I'm sorry - on the face of it, my phone does appear to be quite similarly specced to an iPhone. But that's like saying a Reliant Kitten is the same as a new Corvette because they both have a fibreglass body, a wheel at each corner, lights and a horn.

You can get an adapter to convert it to the 3.5mmjack and be a handsfree too Sorry! It did spend most of it's life in my pocket next to my packet of cigs, at least there weren't other things in it like half a pint of cider Did you stick with the stock browser of put opera on it?

The iPhone has always been able to do that. The cut/copy/paste that has been introduced now is so you can (for example) copy a piece of a web-page into an e-mail. Could your circa 200 Nokia do that?

Hmm when I asked a friend with a 3G iPhone about it, he said that the phone couldn't copy a telephone number from an SMS an add it to a contact in his address book. I stand corrected.

When a phone number is included in a text, there is a blue arrow next to it - select that and it asks you if you want to call, add to existing contact, create new contact etc but perhaps it was introduced with the 3G? That's the version I have. I never used the EDGE iPhone.

I'll look into that. Yeah, that probably would've probably required more than a can of compressed air. I've got the stock browser on it - but then it's kind of my point. The iPhone is great to use out of the box. I can put another browser on the W800, I can reskin it as well, but those things kinda tell me that Sony Ericsson didn't get it right.

It]s also bewildering to see what is on there, and what is not allowed at times. You can, as noted elsewhere. As of OS 3.0, it can be tethered. I know this will work through a cable. It may work via BT. I can’t tell, and can’t try as I’m on PAYG and tethering isn’t supported on that kind of account. It may be cheaper to have a dongle and use that, TBH. No Java, from what I can tell, but it does do JavaScript. It always has. Absence of Flash has been well documented. Various rumours fly around, but so far, it’s not made an appearance. Web sites should be functional without gizmos like Flash. Putting up a Flash presentation and calling it a web site is just wrong. You should always provide HTML alternatives for multi-media stuff like Flash, as there are people for various reasons who can’t or won’t use Flash, including the disabled, who are a litigious bunch these days.
