Ever since we had broadband, we have been with the same company - Freeserve, which became Wanadoo, which became part of Orange. Parents then got a phone deal with free broadband. We were happy with this as it was supposed to be "forever". They sent us a couple of letters stating that they would now charge "line rental" but that this was for us switching from BT to Orange, and we would continue to have free BB. Decided to look elsewhere and around the beginning of the month, we told Orange we didn't want to continue our broadband connection and wanted a MAC code. But by last week, we still hadn't received anything. Rang them up on Saturday to be told to expect it within the next five working days.

It is now the 27th - the date of the termination of BB - and we still haven't received a MAC code, the feckers. So I suspect that from some time today onwards, we will have no broadband. It will take another 5 days once we get it to connect to plusnet. Why the fudge is this so difficult?

If you're getting a MAC then the line can't terminate until it's been used (or 30 days have passed).
Migrating & terminating (if done properly) are completely different

Report them to ofcom. There are strict rules on timeframes for supplying MAC codes.

I've just found a website that states it should have been supplied within five working days, meaning we should have got it ages ago. I will give them until tomorrow and then ring up and complain.

Second round of redundancies this year just been announced.
Not sure if I'm at risk yet so Monday will be a barrel of laughs.

Same here. The new changes to housing benefits and benefits will mean a serious drop in living standards if it hits you.

To place it in context (because it's not that technical a song) my hands were very cold and I haven't played my bass in over two months.
There's a couple of awkward changes in it which I'm still struggling with.

Mark
