Also you are allowed to break the speed limit temporarily if just to overtake IIRC.

No, the speed limit is the maximum allowable limit of your speed. If you don't want to risk a ticket you don't exceed it. Simples.

You must not drive faster than the speed limit for the type of road and your type of vehicle. The speed limit is the absolute maximum and it doesn’t mean it’s safe to drive at this speed in all conditions.

+1.

It's an urban myth.

Possibly stemming from the fact that the police would be unlikely to do anything if you exceeded the speed limit briefly to overtake.

My bad, For some reason I was thinking of a dual carriageway which that definitely isn't. Limit is indeed 60 unless otherwise indicated.

Indeed alfas are allowed to go as fast as they like. Shame the police don't seem to have this info. Although, I think I may be pointless at the moment.

You speed you run the risk of being caught. Don't speed, you won't get caught, you don't get fine.
It's not rocket surgery.

It is when your speedo under-reads! (So reads 30MPH at about 35) Bloody British Leyland...

Generally, if the camera is moving, then you're fine. Unless you're doing something utterly stupid, obviously.

Of course, if it's a static camera moving through the use of a tow-rope, you're definitely off the hook! That said, if you're the one towing it, then you're probably still stuffed. People tend to notice things like an uprooted piggy-bank turning the roads into a Scalectrix track, while booking the tarmac, pavement trees and sky as it goes.

edit: I know dodgy speedos aren't an excuse, but it's a bit of an embuggerance when there's no traffic to follow!

Isn't that illegal? I though manufacturer made then read a tad over the actual speed to avaoid any possible legal issues.

I think that they used to underestimate the speed by 10% though with electronic speedos there may be the same difference.

I don't think it's illegal as such, but given that it's a 40-year-old classic car, I think there's a bit of give. It's that marginal I don't think it really gets picked up in MOTs.

I used to have a GPS speedo in Soddit, since the speedo cable had stretched and would 19MPH on the motorway. ;-)

I don't think it's illegal as such...

Mine goes the other way on a 22 year old classic. If my speedo reads 60mph then I'm doing about 55mph, it's fun for average speed cameras on the motorway :)

It would be more dangerous to go slower, they won't do anything or you'd already know about it.

Yup, the Landy breaks most of those by design. :-)

Unless I'm missing something that road is 2 lanes with 1 in the opposite direction not 3, so NSL applies to single carriageway roads

Going into lane 3 would get you in some pretty bad trouble as it's solid white lines which indicates you just shouldn't cross it, ever
